You do realize that, by longstanding tradition, you are now required to add a "chicks" page, right?

Someone was actually running Pro Comps? Intresting. Guess they eventually figured they'd have to sponsor SOMEONE or settle for a monopoly on the mall crawler market.

Yeah, Jordans new vehicle is SHWEEEET. I had plenty of time to watch him, as we were in line right in front of or behind him all weekend. BTW, that's me in the white shirt with my hands in my pockets, and my wacked-out brother on my right in the hat(I don't think you really need to ask which hat):D

Nice pics John.

But, you know what. I spent maybe 2 hrs. out there, and that was on Sat. handing out fliers for the SWFWDA lawsuit. Way too many people, and honestly, I'm fricking sick of crawling competitions, just wanta go out and wheel, which we did today with the camera guy from the Outdoor Channel for a show they're doing. It was relaxed, none of the crazies went along, I guess its just plain nice to get back to simple wheeling and fun.:D

Great pics Jaffer  Also thanks again to you and your wife for helping Mike and I get our uniforms together. Jaffer hotwired a Singer machine and his wife sewed patches onto our uniforms THE NIGHT BEFORE THE COMP!!!! Truly one of the coolest acts of hospitality I've encountered and another reason I love our sport.

Did anyone get pics of the Nelson Buggy. Rear mount air cooled VW motor, very light, very low. It will be hell to deal with next year (assuming the right team is assembled), It worked extremely well. Honestly the tightest cornering I have EVER seen w/o rear steer. That thing could cut it's front tires to I swear like 75-80 degrees

Best not throw stones on that one fat boy... :flipoff2:

BTW how did the super skinny rig fare in the long run for the weekend? Is Adam in a tizzy over his scratched paint, or is he more pissed about the multiple rollover action? :flipoff2:

Yep, that is most likely a truism, John. I'm getting stretched pretty thin what with the SWFWDA, ORC, Rock Garden, FaunkyBroncys, and oh yeah, the day job.:D And wheeling occasionally.

Really???? I know how much it weighs, it's weight distribution, materials of constrution, etc. You just aren't part of the "in" crowd :flipoff2:

did anyone get any spec on that rig? beside the vw flat 4 power plant

Go2Guy

The fab is beyond first class, the design definately is outside the box and for it's debute, it worked really well. light, very low CG, stable, nimble. They rasn in my group and i got to watch all day friday and a little on Sunday. Probably the best climbing 99" WB I've seen, not by a lot, but they have not even started tuning it yet.

It runs an atlas t-case, front hydro steer with a double ended ram and hi pinion 3rd members (9inch?) I dont know what tranny it has. The atlas is basically right next to the seat. the engine tranny and tcase is set in at a slight angle off to the side of the chassis. I talked to him for a few seconds and he said they havent weighed it. It was its first time out. Here are the pics I snapped of it:

is it just me or is that tube chassis/cage not symetrical at all?

Purpose built does not = symetrical.

You really think that someone builds a rig like that without knowing the exact weight and it's distribution throughout the chasis

They weren't making it public knowledge (neither would I if it were mine), but they let a select few in on the secret for recruiting purposes :p

Rock racing engineering and innovation could really get interesting if the off road racers cross over in-mass.

Nelson's rig is very interesting and some real thinking obviously went into its planning and construction.

I'm the guy running ProComps and just so you know, they are a new test rubber that has worked out very well. Starting early next year the rumor is everything 35" and up will come in the new stickier - chunk free rubber. The new 37x13.5x16 is starting production as we speak...great combo tire by going to a 16" rim considering the best setup for many is 17" in front and 15" in back...this will give you one rim size to deal with and less spares to carry. Also the sidewalls will be even thicker thicker, the side lugs will come out farther and wrap around over double what they used to, the three plies in the side will have a special wrap so the tire does NOT have any lateral roll...If this tire does move from testbed to production, I wouldn't be surprised to see a large number of guys switching once they see the new tire next year.

Okay, I'm a little confused  is the 37x13.5x16 going to have all the new features you describe and the new rubber compund?

I just want to check to see if I know the theory behind the 15-17 combo.
A. The 17 is used in the front to reduce the sidewall aspect ratio and thus minimize the radial sidewall bounce phenomena as well as reduce sidewall roll?
B. The 15 is used because it allows the tire to better wrap around objects do to the higher sidewall aspect ratio?

But with the Krawlers you just get front benifits?

MT/R comes in 37x17 and 37x15 but the 37x13 is much stiffer I am told, so do these two tires work well together? Why don't the Krawlers come this way?

But all of this goes away with 6 ply bias tires even in the 38.5" sizes?

Your theories are pretty much correct regarding front to rear rim sizes, though in reality, I don't know how many competitors are actually mixing rim sizes. I have heard of a few, but haven't paid enough attention to see who. MT/R 13"? Dunno about the Krawlers...my guess is that they wanted to find something that worked first, then branch out...they did well in Farmington.
Regarding the ProComp 37's, yes they will have all the features I wrote about. As for the new rubber in the 37's, as well as 35's, that will come out in the new year when the new molds are done. Right now they are pouring the tires with the normal rubber and for the highway rigs, it's a great choice as they get 50,000 miles and up from them. They just made up their minds on the new compound as they have been quietly testing different mixes for about a year now...I think it will be a hit...scratch that...I'm sure it will be a hit as they stick good!
