Let me start by saying I know there is a search button. I also know that I don't have 6 weeks to look at all of the threads/posts.

I have decided that I want to build a Yota. When I went to Disney, OK a few weeks back I was floored how the little trucks were keeping up and leading the way for my buggy. I turned to my buddy and said "That's my next build". I buy wrecked stuff from auto pools but want to make sure I start with the correct veh. from the start. I noticed most of the guys (who stayed true to the toyota parts) were running yota doublers, Going with a straight axles up front for obvious reasons and tearing it up on 35-37's. I went wheeling with a guy the first night who was open front and rear and showed me the lines to take. That little fawker got it!!! I guess where my questions start is this. I don't know Toyota's at all and I wont' try and $hit anyone and act like I do. Are the toyota trans adaptable with all T cases as far as making a doubler? Example. A Chevy, TH350, 400, fl60 and 80e all bolt up front and rear to motors and T cases. I just want to make sure I start with the correct base from the start. What year truck do you guys suggest and what should I stay away from?

Thanks,

Todd

Get a mid to late 80's 2wd truck so you dont have to pay the price of a 4x4. Get an extended cab if you want the extra room. Put the drive train of you choice in it. 4.3 Chevy's fit real well under the hood. Yota cases are easily adapted to Chevy transmissions if you go that route. Mine didn't start like this because I had a homemade 2x4 tube frame that started life with my CJ-3A on it, but I put my 87 Yota truck on it to gain the creature comforts like a top, windshield, and a heater.

you looking for a street rig or just a basis to build a buggy?

3rz - 2.7l 4cyl 96-98. has a distributor and keeps things simpler
8.4 rear diff (http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/)
diamond front with longfield 30 spline stuff
call marlin and inchworm for a dual case setup. many differnt ways to go about this. id keep the chain drive case

Just out of curiosity what would be the advantage of keeping the chain drive case?

In Kansas we could tag a mule. It will sport a tag but will be 95% trail rig.

If your going to do a tacoma I would find a v6(3.4L is the best toyota V6) extended cab or double cab that was hit in the rear or something like that. Build it to suit from there. You cant really go wrong by picking a body style you like and getting all the good parts to go with it from there. Also depends on your style of wheeling and how hardcore you want to go.Here is the url to the pirate toyota bible Pirate Toyota FAQ (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=775780) You will find more out about toyotas there than just about anywhere is in the world.

soon after my wife and i buy a house i get to build another truggy for me and she will drive the 4door on the trails...

ill be getting a(WHITE OR SILVER) wrecked reg cab tacoma prerunner or 4x4 with the v6...then ill cut the frame off behind the cab and tube it out...35 spline dana 60 and 70 with 6.17s/aussie lockers at SRW width(69 and 67'')...leafs in front and linked out back on 1/4 eliptical springs and some decent bbcs or bilstein shocks...inchworm adapters to run the dual toyota gear driven cases and 38.5 sxs or 39 IROCKs on some cheap aluminum wheels

basically im gonna go shopping in the for sale section here for some good deals on the axles and dual cases, then build a cheap, but very capable suspension...

i need a rig i can act retarded in again...and not mind staying farther from street legal

I appriciate all the help guys. After all of this (which I have learned a lot) a buddy that I listed a rig for and I agreed on a price for his yota on tons. So the search for the right vehicle is off for right now. This one is based off of an 85. Little older looking rig that I had wanted but is already set up so I can make a few changes to it and be wheeling it in no time. I still want to build one based off of yota stuff here soon and look forward to any info that can be offered up.

Thanks again for all of your help!

Todd
