OK, so i'm gathering parts for my new rig.....got a lead on a motor and wanted some quick advice.

this is a chevy 350 from a '78 van....4 barrel quad jet.

this is a complete motor w/ 79k oil pan to carb...w/ a turbo 350 attached for $400

i will be mating this to a SM420/D300 combo which i already have.

need to decide on this motor asap looking for opinions....pros/cons.......figuring i can unload the auto tranny for $100 and end up w/ a good start on a motor for $300.

well? thoughts?

thanks

Not a bad price at all, due to the age I would pull the pan at the very least and pull a few rod caps off and main caps off and check for wear. Change the timing chain, oil pump and all the gaskets and let her eat...

One thing about a SBC, parts are easy and cheap to find...

Have Fun :D

yep..the 350 is the decision on the type of motor...really wondering if the '78 vintage was cool. seems like a reasonable choice because it has electronic ignition, but doesn't get into computer control.

I figure before i throw dow the cash, i'll pull a couple plugs, turn it over to make sure it's not locked, blah, blah.....

i was just a little leary of going carbed, but the install will be simple and i hear the quad jet is reliable for wheelin' if it's set up right.

more thoughts?

Yeah, that sounds good. Q jets are sweet when done right and the 78 will have the hardened valve seats in it for the unleaded fuel. New enough but not too new. I'd get it
