I found a truck with an 8.3 cummins and a six speed manual. The truck only has 230 horsepower and I would really like to get closer to 300 or more because it is to haul my camper and 4 wheelers. It will only see 10k a year so longevity is not an issue. Are there turbo upgrades and stuff I will have to do or can I have it reflashed or what? It is a 1997 model year, thanks for any help.

any competent diesel mechanic can turn that motor up a little. I *think* that 97 was the first year of the non-mechanical motor in the CTA, but I am not 100% on that. Find out what kind of pump is on the motor and that will help you with your options.

TST has upgrades for the CTA/ISC if I remember correctly. Things like adding are not in kit form as they are with the ISB, but you can do 700hp and 2000+ TQ with a big enough wallet. Adding an intercooler would help if you dont have one, expecially if you are towing at elevation, long grades, etc.

Get a boost gauge and a thermocouple/pyrometer, pre turbo if possible. A CTA with a few mods can easily make 300hp and 900-1000 pound feet of torque, which should be plenty for a camper and quads.

If all else fails calls Scheid Diesel.
