I found a good deal on a running 454. What do i need to put this in my '83 K5? I know I need to change the flexplate to flywheel to adapt to my sm465, but am I going to need a new harmonic balancer too? What about clutch? Also, I know i need a bigger radiator, will a k20 or k30 radiator bolt in? TIA :D

everything from a K10/ 20 will bolt up, rad, motor mounts, ect. just make sure to get the right flywheel, (externally balanced)

also don't make the mistake i made with the fuel pump. i put my old small block pump on and the motor was starving for gas.
run the big block one.

thanks Dave and hawaii, i never would have thought of the fuel pump thing on my own, but I think this engine has a one on it already, so i should be good there.

Don't forget to start thinking about the rest of the drivetrain...........first weak link is the 10 bolt rear, followed closely by the 10 bolt front end................plan on a 14BFF rear.
4 core radiator is important, easy upgrade. :eek:

i couldn't agree more. that was my biggest battle when i went to a 454. i learned alot about cooling in the process.
- 4 core or more for a big block
- clutch fans cool better than flex fans
- shrouds must be used for a fan to work properley
- moving the trans cooler out from the front of the radiator is good for about 10 degrees(i used a cooler with it's own fan)
- bigger exhaust helps too.(i had 3 inch)
