ok.. got my yokes, front driveline, etc. all bolted right up. (thanks jess!) Ran into two problems...

one was my rear driveline being stuck... I couldn't get it to expand past a certain point.. not even splines showing. ok.. annoying, but not insurmountable...

The REAL problem... my spedometer.

The speedo sensor assembly is so %@#%ing long it hits the rear cover for the shifter rails. I can get it in, clocked in to a spot that the gears engage, but can't plug it in. there is less than zero clearance. :(

Anyone have this problem? I'm at a loss as how to get past this particular problem. and I NEED my spedometer. (My jeep is a 92 YJ.)

The BFH?

I BFH'd the driveline... no budge. I gotta make a call in the morning for what to do next. There's no signs of rust on the shaft or anything... no signs of damage on the outside like somehow bent. I pulled the grease zerk in case there was a vacuum issue with extending the driveline.. but nothing... its stuck.

The sensor... I could BFH it... but don't think it would work very well afterward. ;) :p

Maybe 4wpw will have a special kit you could use.

Mine's a 92 YJ also. It's been a while, but I remember having the same problem. I *think* I had to pull the sensor off the speedo gear assembly, put the gear assembly in first, then putt the sensor back on and rotate into place. Also, I think there's two orientations (clocking) on the gear assembly that will work. I do know I had to work at it for awhile. NOTE: Don't forget to smear a little gasket sealer around the mounting surface or it WILL leak.

I played with it for 30 minutes or so last night trying all 4 clocking positions. It could be the speedo gear I am using is a different size than yours. I was able to install it in 2 positions and still be able to plug in the wire harness.

Does anyone know if the TJ speedo assembly and sensor are the same? Except shorter?

What about Dodge?

Im not sure who built the driveline, or how old it is, but i used to work in a driveline shop in california.. and ran into a problems with some slip and stubs.. It seemed that the glide coat on the splines on the stub were put on too thick and would prevent the slip from slipping.. Also another problem we ran into everyonce in a while was the stub was not machined correctly and the tolerance's were to tight to let it slip.. needless to say those parts never got used and were sent back to the manufactor.

i had a new driveline one time do osmething similar...i brought it home all excited to put it on but no budge, i pulled and pulled and hit it, brought it back to the shop and they messed with it for a while then finally came out 10 minutes later with it working,,,turns out the paint they shot it w/ got inside the slip part and made it stick...

Mine was a tight fit but it went in. The connection for the sensor beraly clears.
Good luck,
