i have a 1980 chevy k10 with the 350 runs really good and strong. i noticed last fall that at higher rpms 3-4k i could smell oil burning and it was spraying all over my fuel pump and headers. changed the timming cover seal. thought that was my problem but i guess not. i was driving it yesterday and really got on it (4k shifts) and it started doing it again. once the rpms got to about 3k oil all over my fuel pump/ headers/ oil pan/ starter? all the gaskets and seals are fine to what i can see. and the oil preasure stays normal when it happens. all i can think of is does oil go inside the fuel pump on these older truck? i'm at a dead end i need some help.

3 things i changed first time.

timming cover seal and gasket.

oil pan gasket.

and the gasket where the fuel pump goes onto the motor.

gaskets should be good and fuel pump should be on tight. i'll go wrench on it in a bit to muddy to put in shop right now and the winds blowing about 40mph so i am feeling lazy :P

Put a short bolt in the fuel pump rod access hole (front of block) with a copper washer

yo dave, bolt are tight and gaskets are fine. KWTMECH. i'm not quite sure i see what you are talking about, there are two bolt hols right next to the fuel pump on the front of the block. but they dont go anywhere? are they the right ones?

one of those two bolt holes goes back to the fuel pump pushrod, and will start spraying oil at higher rpms. ive always used a bolt with some good silicone on it to put in there.

Pretty certain its the upper hole that needs the bolt in it, but it wont hurt to put a short bolt in both of them.

X2, Been there, done that! Even a friend of mine had that same problem. Found a bolt and fixed it while his car was sitting in a car show, lol.
