: Thrashin' the Big Meats in Oklahoma....

Rusty put together a run to check out some new land that's opened up just north of Clayton. It's private property that a guy owns and the Texas 4wd club has been working to build trails on. We had a bunch of the big meats from around Tulsa come out, including Mark and Casey from WMS. I took an ear off an axle on the first trail, so I was done early. I grabbed the camera and jumped in and rode with Danny from Down & Dirty Offroad, so that means LOTs of pics!

This place has some real potential. It's been quite a while since I've seen Mark and Casey work so hard! They really thrashed on those trucks :)… This place has stuff that stopped even them…

Well enough talk, how about some pics…. ;)

This trail was called Starcase (or something like that..). It's pretty much 44's only! Rick (yellow Bronco) and Danny (orange Bronco)were on 40's, and it was tough going. Mark and Casey made it all the way up the lower section, but struggeled... There is more of the wash, but it was getting late and EVERYONE was tried.. :)

Ok 1 more... Casey struggeled in this spot for at least 45mins.... Danny made it to here then spit the caps on the rear drive shaft. He backed down the trail and found an exit. It was time to call it a day....

This is Mark.... I've got a lot of pics but no real place to put them. I don't have much space on the extreme web page, and I hate to use it up since this was not a club run (I was the only club member there.. ;) )... These are pretty much the highlights...

Rusty organized this thing, and I only found out less than a week before. I did not know the WMS guys were going until a few days before. They don't wheel much any more, but they thrashed it like I've not seen them do in YEARS! It was cool!

Really, the group was a perfect size to do HARD CORE ONLY stuff. It took all day, and we only ran 2-1/2 trails!

It sux that I did not get to play much, but I WILL go back again (after I get my alloy axles in ;) )... However, I really would not have any business in Starcase. Anything smaller than 40 or 44's and you are just gonna break a LOT of stuff and work you ass off! The rocks are just HUGE, and all loose....

Casey and Mark did not break anything, but it was not like they did'nt try! Casey got so frustrated at one spot that he was actually trying to move a bolder by backing up and slamming his front axle into it!

It was really refreshing to see these guys have to work at stuff, and have to GO AROUND! That does not happen very often....

Hey Man,

Glad you enjoyed our little playground.

Follow this link to the previous weekends trip when we cut the "Staircase" trails from top to bottom.

Bad shit for sure. Did you guys find this trail?

Mr Freilling's Staircase (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86196)

I posted this in the Cruiser section last week.

One comment on the above statement about 44's....we all run little bitty 42's ;)

This was my first time out there, and I left the map at home today, so I'm not real sure what Staircase we did.

We really did not cover much ground, since we stuck to the hard core stuff. I really want to go back out soon and do a little more running around.

We met the guy that own it, really nice. It looks like he gets a kick out of all they guys that wants to pay $10 buck to go break their sh!t.. :D But, that place is certanly worth it. :) You guys have done a great job.....

Do you guys have a web site with info on the place? At least somehow to give credit to those who are putting in the work. It's lookin' great.

Correction Nolen, some of us only run 38.5's and made the trail while Turney only run's 39.5's. Either way, the TSOB trail is good and Mr. Freiling's Staircase is even better. Both were made to be crawled not clawed :D TSOB is run by guys with 35's all the time... maybe not on that 2nd wall though. I saw they didn't quite make the middle section of the wall. Not that we made the middle either, but I know a couple of sheep who can and do. That right side was good enough for us. In fact, getting to the wall is the hard part!

My truck isn't even an automatic and only runs a stock 22RE 4-cylinder motor. Though on Staircase, I have finally found a reason to go lower than dual stock Toyota cases. 4:1 in the rear case would be my friend.

Looking at your pics, I'd say Mr Freilings is what I was calling the 'wall'. It's just above TSOB, right? Then we drove down the main road and found the other trail (what I was calling the Staricase). That's the one everyone struggled on (actually only a few even tried)..

Mark said the trail continued on up, but they took out where another one crossed and called it a day....

We saw where Sam's had left the same trail early on, a few weeks ago. They did not make it more than a few feet...

That Wall you climbed is the 2nd part of TSOB and still a part of TSOB. The Staircase trail is where you stated everyone struggled. The 2nd half (after the cross-road) is also tough, but a little easier. The last obstacle is one of the better spots on the whole trail. It'sl nothing but extreme crawling and/or winching. Your line, wheelbase, tire size, and nads decide for you on any given day. The Staircase Trail was discovered and planned by a Mr. Mike Green and Mr. Steven Turney. A few more of us helped finish it off and debuted it a couple of weeks ago.

99.9% of the trails on that property are courtesy of FWD-FWD (Ft. Worth - Dallas Four Wheel Drive). We are the same club who cleared and maintained most of the stuff just south of Clayton (basically what everybody called Clayton).

The WALL is right above TSOB...we call it TSOB extension.

You found Lower Mr Freilling's Staircase....cool!

In my pictures you will see a Line Green TJ on 42's. He ran with Sam's the week before and yes, they made it to the first corner and opted out.

We went in on Friday before the October Trailfest and cut the Upper Section with 5 rigs.

It took us the better part of the day. There is one REALLY nasty wedge at the top we call Mike's Crack.

YOu guys did LOWER MR FREILLING'S Staircase. I think it is the worst of the two.

We, like ya'll moved lots of rocks with out axles and tires making it. We dove in on Saturday of trailfest with 5 rigs and only tow made it out 4 hours later unbroken to complete the upper section.

I am glad you guys had fun. We will continue to make 'em for all levels, but right now our little group are out there looking for stuff to test the "Big Meats" to the hilt.

We are presently working on a trail in Clayton that will make the Staircase look like a cakewalk!

We will keep you guys posted.

Wow thanks all
it made me feel great after all the stories. Steve and i spent about 20 hours on the mr frielings staircase. the bottom is tougher than the top. except for the V right before it dumps into Hoegardenat the top.
One concern i do have a few weeks back we had left a strategically placed tree. to make an up hill off camber climb. the narrow rig could go straight the full size could cut right. someone in a bronco made it past the tree then decided to cut it out of the trail but because of difficulty and time restraints i am told to decided to stop running it for the day but drove to the bottom and walked back up with an axe and cut the tree down. Please stop these people. this trail is awesome lets keep it that way.a person who ran with this guy the week before but didnt know him told me the story. a bunch of the smaller rocks that can be used as stackers are also going away. make it or winch is what we are thinking.
back to TSOB. when you come up what we call the slab you are on the back 40 road.TSOB is straight up then a 2nd wall on up we havent made yet ???? just west of there 20 feet is JO JO's yoyo. it is a 3 for narrow sized rigs. but up the middle is another dry creek like TSOB. go past jojo and take the next left down the hill on quicky 2. turn left at the bottom and left into Jon Walk. no sign as of yet. some parts are easier than TSOB but at the top another obstacle like at the wall of TSOB 1 try so far no sucessful.
FWD-FWD.org has leased the property per year from mr feiling for a couple years. then we pay the 10 per day or 15.00 weekend but as you see it is open to anyone......
Mr frieling at 1st liked the money. but now he tells us

What front shafts is Mark running? I know he's got that 14-bolt-60 front end. So the inners are obviously custom, so I assume that they could be alloy? What about the outers? I assume they're 35-spline. Are they custom 35-spline alloys, or just stock Chevy stubs? Someone said that he didn't break anything the entire day? I only ask all this for my own reference since I am running 44's and want something stronger than stock Spicer shafts.

WELL i hope you guys respect it, with all the landclosures i read about (and worldwide) it is happening all over the place in australia, in all states and other countries that im hearing of, SO i think places like this will be the future, and it looks pretty awesome, so GET IT!! $10 is nothing, (but good value) some of the 4wd parks here charge a $50 minimum per vehicle and $130 if an event is on...... thats rape!! but with all the free spots drying up, it is certainly becoming more popular!

Speaking of land closures, I received my Blue Ribbon Magazine today in the mail and in it is a list of candidates that are ORV friendly and also those who are not. They probably have it up on their site, too. Everybody should use it to vote.

okcrawler,

The wall is located on the up hill side of the dirt road right after you come up the slab on TSOB. Mike Green and Ed Westerbeck eyed and tried to make another climb right after the wall but the moss on the rock didn't offer any real traction.

Their is another new trail, not on the map, called Jon's Walk that is equally as hard and fun that we ran for the first time 2 weeks ago. Mike Green has also found a rock garden on the property that we'll be hitt'n soon.

Really glad you guys liked the trails. You should have seen the staircase the first time Mime and I walked it. So much poison ivy you could help but walk right into it.

We've got more in the works.

I went by WMS's shop last night and dropped off pics. We are all taking about going back one weekend in Nov. We are eager to see some more. :) I'll let you know when I find out more... ;)

By the way, Casey and Mark both made it up the Wall. Just don't stand behind them when the rocks start flying.. :D :D

Many of the guys had seen the property several years ago, but many of the 'good spots' were grown up and hidden. They know and appriciate how much work you guys have done... This place could be a top class park. We just need to make sure to keep Mr. Freilling happly.....

The best way to keep Mr. Freiling happy is to BS with him from time to time, to sign his waiver every time, respect him and his property (rumors have it some people haven't been doing that)and to support him with money. I don't care how nice a guy you are, money talks more than anything else.
