: XORRA Grey Rock, AL Who's In!!
trailtoy83 04-12-2010, 07:00 PM Well less than 3 weeks till the first event, haven't seen much talk about it? I missed last year, so i am pretty excited about racing this year. I heard they are doing away with the middle banner( should be interesting), and making courses longer. Who all is racing? Ill be there!!
caddishack 04-12-2010, 07:50 PM Levi, Dan, Rick Deremo, and I will be there!
Jodi and I went down to Gray Rock this past weekend to walk the course. We will be adding a much longer section to the upper part of the course for some great high speed action.:D Can't wait to get the season started, it is going to be an awesome year of racing.
Go2Guy 04-13-2010, 08:00 AM we're in, should be a good time:)

Bad news: This pup wont be racing this weekend.
Good News: Got a brand new LS6 crate motor :smokin: shipping out of Lees Summit this afternoon. Hey, the faster she runs, the faster I can get on my lid.

Just came to the computer to ask the same thing:D Should be about over by now I would think.

JIMMYS 4X4 05-01-2010, 02:23 PM still no word
?????????????
trailtoy83 05-01-2010, 02:26 PM Well there was about 17 rigs racing. Course was fast super fast, 1 big jump, then you went into the bowl no real challenges, 5 laps. Top six in finals were
West
Campbell
B shirley
haynes
L shirley
A Carter
I know West had a 1 sec lead going into finals and Campbell Won.
wngrog 05-01-2010, 05:01 PM Was Adam Carter racing his KOH buggy?
Anyone have any pics? I bet it was a muddy bitch.....
bigsilly 05-01-2010, 05:07 PM Was Adam Carter racing his KOH buggy?
Anyone have any pics? I bet it was a muddy bitch.....
I talked to AC earlier in the week and he said he lowered the ride height and got the "ridin' like shit out of it" and he was gonna go give it a shot.
jrhall 05-01-2010, 06:01 PM Shannon won,
west 2nd
shirleys, 3rd and 4th
Carter-6th.
Carter ripped the inner C on the rear housing.
Buddy hit a tree and rolled hard.
Chris May caught on fire.
Ken Blume`s hood flew off.
Branik guys looked to be having a hard day... One of em did make the shootout.
Just a few things I remember.
irb4ur 05-01-2010, 06:42 PM Super fast course for Gray Rock--almost no mud, at least for today. Rain is expected tonight. Shannon was just too fast to beat--got the hole shot every time I could see. But Derik West did beat him in the first heat. Levi DNF'd on first run of the day due to a fuel pump, knocking him down to 4th overall. I'm not sure where he would have placed without the DNF. Buddy won the Alter Ego Award for the great traction his Maxis tires gave him on the tree climb. I'm surprised there were not more broken buggies with the 5-lap runs.
Only 17 rig's were there???
StinkyMcStink 05-01-2010, 10:33 PM It was awesome out there today. No rain, but not too dusty. A little wind to keep it cooled off. Shannon was friggin' FAST out there today. The course was very fast too. I like the lane format a lot better this way than last years and the layout of the course was very well planned from a spectator point of view.
Looking like rain early AM on into the day tomorrow, which will make it a little slower but more interesting in my opinion. Grayrock is 15 minutes from my house. The kind of mud we have out there will make life miserable for anyone who isn't used to driving in it. (Think wet snot mixed with WD-40).
We'll be out there all day again tomorrow spectating also. We'll be set up right next to Ricky B's canopy again. Gimme a yell, I'm the mean-looking guy with the mohawk who'll be taking a boatload of pictures.
lincontaco 05-02-2010, 08:24 AM I wonder if anyone had a radar out there to clock them on from the starting line or maybe a GPS unit that was still in from the king of the hammers? I know they were freaking flying. Most were hitting the rev limiter in their highest gear. To bad we couldnt see it or the jump. Shannon was pretty much skipping UP half of the climbs, definatlly hauling ass! Good luck to everyone today. Im back at home planning to be a lazy ass today.
StinkyMcStink 05-02-2010, 11:25 AM Another awesome day of XORRA action. They changed the course around a little to do away with the large stretch at the top of the hill and eliminated one of the exit routes. This made the start much faster and the exit a lot more exciting. Plus the rain managed to hold off, so it was dry and fast.
I haven't heard an official word yet on placement. We rolled out as soon as the last race was over due to being hungry and tired from a long weekend. I'll have some pics up soon.
JIMMYS 4X4 05-02-2010, 12:29 PM Any Word??
caddishack 05-02-2010, 01:35 PM Campbell, West, L Shirley.
Go2Guy 05-02-2010, 01:48 PM Well, no word from today, we left last night to get a day of prep in for PA.
I liked the new format, I was expecting the " no middle barrier" and it worked better than expected. By adding the loooong WOT section and jumping to five laps as well (both unexpected), it added an entire new element to the sport. Cone dodgers like mine suffered, under powered (and I've got 300+) and cooling systems not designed for that long a run with that much throttle (having a lovell t-case did not help either). I could not get five laps out of the car with my cooling sytem. no point of even trying on sunday.
It was great watching Derek, shannon and the Shirley's fly. Shannon said it best, for him to be running as fast as he was and have Derek right on his tail, eating dust in a heavier taller ride really shows the talent Derek has.
I know some slower rides placed well this weekend, but only due to attrition.
If I knew they were going to shorten things up for sunday, I would have stayed another day, oh well. This needs to be looked at, as it was run saturday, a good portion of the field brought a knife to a gun fight, and there mostly veterans there who have all done well before.
The Weavers and volunteers were cool and allowed Branden to run a lap in my ride at the end of the day saturday, Branden ran 1'39" in his lap, not bad for his first shot, even aired it out nicely over the jump!
Good to see a lot of old friends again. I hope to get a better cooling system so i can make Jellico!

I had to leave Saturday, and was planning to keep an eye on Tim Cantrell. Any word on how he did?
Did Buddy not run on sunday??? Congrats to Shannon!!! Good job Lucky Dogs!!!
pflash 05-02-2010, 07:42 PM Just getting back tonight, had to take the long way home with the flooooods in Tenn & KY. Tim took a nasty roll at the end of the day in the shoot out, "rung his bell"
Buddy broke something in his steering and did not have the parts to get it back for today.
Great action, can't wait to look thru all the video I have.
This was the Talladega of Rock Racing this weekend, look forward to Jellico.
Shannon, Derek, and Brian was off the hook when they were paired up. Levi was also super fast "blew up his eng." has some work to do before the next event.

trailtoy83 05-02-2010, 08:16 PM Today there was some insane racing!! Campbell and B. Shirley run was the coolest race ever, they both should have been on their lids at least a half of dozen times. Shirley had the inside lane and got to the turn first, then Campbell was all over him literally. Brian slipped up on one of the uphills so Shannon went to pass and they both went on 2 wheels racing to the straight away. There was all kinds of contact, Brian lost a shock so he kinda slowed down, sucked I was hoping they could have run all 4 laps like the first 2. I really like the new format, but they are gonna have to have away to tell if someone jumps the starts, if you got out in front you were gonna have a faster time. The dust was terrible and if you got behind you pretty much were blinded by the dust.
Top 6 six on sun were
Shannon Campbell
Dereck West
Levi Shirley
Chris May (Me)
Tim Cantrell
Kevin Crews
tw89yj 05-03-2010, 06:02 AM Good job Chris.
Go2Guy 05-03-2010, 06:15 AM Good job Chris.

I wonder what's taking levi's motors out, he's been thru a few now. Others are having decent luck with these lasting.
How did Richie Keller do on day two?
Orange2thebone 05-03-2010, 07:59 AM Racing was off the hook on Saturday, I did not run on Sunday due to the ram mounting plate was ripped pretty good due to the tree climbing. Like Ken said knife to a gun fight was me. My gearing has to change, I stayed on the limiter the whole race and ran hotter than a scalded dog. The long straight always Tim ate my lunch, and I ate his dust. Some how I would manage to catch him in the bowl, but then he was gone again. I missed that tree at the top of the water fall six times but it was the only place I knew I could make up for not having top end speed for the straight away. Ouch! Going off that 5 foot jump on the limiter, and not being able to see past the hood was insane. I was just glad Tim didn’t have a bad landing or it would have been all over. That was stupid of me and won’t happen again. I probably could have run on Sunday but it would have been slow and easy as not to break. But that’s not what I’m looking for. Placing better because of carnage of others that’s racing. But that’s when I’m racing, and not just in a race. Going to re gear and put the knife up for the next one. Did anyone get a photo of us going off the jump I would love to get a copy?

payton rodney 05-03-2010, 06:55 PM This was my first event to attend. I was pulling for the home team AC and Tim, but it was cool to get to see Shannon, Derek, and Levi running the course. I will def. be a fan of XRRA from now on, these guys know how to put on a good show. Great pics Ricky.
Damn my head is still spinning from the action this weekend. The season opener for the 2010 Xtreme Off-Road Racing season was insane. We lucked out on Saturday and had fairly good weather for a full day of racing. I am sure some of those rigs went by me doing over 70mph on the straight away. One of our judges on top measured a few of the longer jumps and they were flying over 65 feet.
We were sad that so many teams that had already registered for the event could not make for a verity of reasons, however the ones that made it out to Gray Rock put on one hell of an event. The entire XORRA staff can not say thanks enough to all the teams for coming out and making this such a great series to be part of.:D Everyone that we talked to loves the new format; of course there are a few things we need to work through but all and all it was a great weekend of racing.
Colorado Springs here we come.
