Here are some pics from this weekend's Pig Run 2002. It was a good time. By my count, we had 13, but I thought I counted 14 in camp.

Here are the owners of the pigs I know were there:

Don Brannon
Greg Dyche
Morgan Fletcher
Eric Hassett (not present, but pig driven by Luke & Christine Porter)
Josh Lacey
Byron Lear
Jake McCready
Warren Prouty
Ron Safreno
Joe Somerville
Bill Stayner
Mark Warner
Brandon Zipp

If you can recall who else was in camp but not at the photo shoot, besides Jake McCready, please let me know.

The weather was beautiful, except for the cold, Saturday night. But the clear view of the starry sky at night in the Sierras was almost worth it. The scenery was beautiful, the wheeling mild and fun, and the camaraderie at camp was great. There were plenty of kids there, including my son Sam, and they all had a good time.

Don and I will start publicizing Pig Run 2003 much sooner, so that it's in print well in advance and pig owners without internet access will get the word. I think Deer Valley is a perfect spot, although the photo shoot should be at one of the two Blue Lakes, so that the stockers (javelinas) can come in from the highway 88 side with no trouble, and the built rigs (boars) can still have fun coming in from the highway 4 side. (Byron Lear showed that a mildly-modified, beautiful stock pig can come in from the 4 side with no trouble.) We'll probably move the run to September, so as to get above-freezing night-time weather and hopefully still be late enough to avoid the mosquitoes. There was not one bug in the clear sierra air this time.

We had a blast. Join us next year!

I will do a proper write-up when I get a chance and link to it from my Pig Run 2002 page.

FC: You certainly cooked up a storm on Saturday - the BBQ was excellent. Many thanks from my family; sorry about contaminating the BBQ area with the salad;) Andy

don and morgan: I had a blast! :D

pumpkin felt a little lonley but i'm glad the hoard of pigletts was kind enough to let him hang out.

the first hour on the trail was definetly the most exciting. first louis busts a birf, the don puts his hog down for a little nap and i bust an axle shaft in the same spot.

don: THAT TRI-TIP KICKED ASS!

can't wait to go again next year. i'll post some pics as soon as i figure out what's wrong with my 3.5 floppy drive.:(

Don and Morgan, another great year. The trail was perfect for every type of rig. I really enjoyed seeing people I haven't seen all year and making new friends. Hopefully we can get the word out earlier next year so more people can make it. If you need help planning give me a call.

Morgan,

Just a small point. A Javalina is a rodent, not a Pig.

Having a stock Pig, I take offense to having it called a rodent, therefore I am forced to do a springover.

If asked, it is your fault.

"Are Javelina related to Rodents (like a big rat)?

No! Javelina are not related to Rodents other than they are both mammals. Rodents are in a completely different family order.

Are Javelina related to Pigs?

Yes!, Javelina (collared peccaries), and pigs (swine) are members of the order Artiodactyla, suborder Suiformes, sharing a common ancestry dating back some 30 million years. But, because of significant anatomical and genetic differences they, have been placed in separate families - pigs in the Suidae family and Javelina in the Tayassuidae."

Nolen, please get another 55, and spring that one over, and leave Wilbur as-is.

Please!

You'll be like Noah, or the cryogenic scientists preserving Walt Disney's head: You've gotta keep that one.

Mine was clean, when I got it:

I wish I'd started off wheeling a ruff one, but it's a slippery slope. I wheeled it, found its limitations, did a little damage, made a little mod. Wheeled it, did some damage, made a bigger mod. Wheeled it, found more limitations, made bigger mods, got another dent, etc. I wish I had a clean stocker to go with it. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have gotten a beater and built that into a trail rig.
