: Engine Swap Anti-Fry Procedure

On the subject of engine swaps, whatīs the best way to (attempt to) fire up the motor for the first time after "concluding" the swap and not fry sumpinī?? Iīm doing a 1.6 16 valve Swift swap into my Zuk and the wiring has been a fawking nightmare, even with the FSM schematics from both vehicles. The worst part is when you look at a connector that the schematic says has an orange wire, for example, except that thereīs no orange wire to be found. I found three or four instances of this. Combining these doubts with my natural ineptness with things electrical, Iīm worried that I might cook something...

So whatīs the best way to initiate the start-up procedure?? I was thinking of removing all fuses from the fuse block and disconnecting the ECM. Then, putting power to one circuit at a time, check for "correctness" relative to the schematic and with a multimeter, as appropriate. I would start with the simple circuits, like the taillights, thereby reducing potential errors on the important ECM circuits through the process of elimination. After verifying these connections, I would then do one more pre-power check on the ECM connections and then cross my fingers.

Any input would be most welcome to help me avoid an ECM melt-down.

TIA,

hi guy
what i would do is reverse engineer the harnessget it completely out of the donor car spread out on the floor or a big table and unwrap the harness...now trace the wires from the different sensors and what ever else is on the motor back to the ecm and seperate these wires from the rest of the harness you should only need the fsm for the donor car...thats how i would go about doing it if i were going to do this....and above all take your time and dont rush...........good luck rabidray

As in "Predator", I ripped the whole wire harness clean out of a Swift-all of it-for the same swap. I agree, reverse engineering the whole thing is your best bet. Unfortunately I can't help yet because I need a Swift FSM(hint, hint). Sounds like you're on the right track though. You also might want to check out the TeamSwift board(teamswift@ezboard) about ECM stuff. I've heard of weird things like the ECM fires up strangely at first and needs to "learn" the engine all over again. That site will point you to other sites with some good info on the G13b.
By the way about your FSM, is it on a disk?

Thanks for the input. In principle, I did do it the way youīre describing, but I guess I was a little sloppy in the execution. In retrospect, I guess I got cutting and hacking before I had EVERYTHING sorted out.

Itīs a paper copy and itīs in Spanish...
