: Spacers or less backspacing?

I plan on running a 10 bolt front and a 14 rear SOA. I would like to keep it as narrow as possible. Should I run spacers in the front to clear the steering or just run less backspacing on the Hummer wheels I plan on getting?

I had this dilemna and went spacers. Reason being was that I wouldn't have to remount and balance the tires, and if I didn't like them I could take them off. Are you going to run identical b/s front and rear? If so, and you have access to change the b/s on your hummer rims I would do that.

Well, I say...
If yer already planning on getting new wheels, see if you can get 'em w/ the backspacing you want & bypass the spacers.

I have friends w/ spacers & they've had no trouble w/ 'em, but I just couldn't justify paying as much for wheel spacers as a set of steelies would cost.

Of course, I was pricing stock pattern TJ wheels, so I dunno what your costs would be.

These will be new tires and Hummer wheels so I can get the backspacing done before I even own them. So it sounds like that is the way to go. Now the question is, how much backspacing should I get? I would like to keep it as much as possible to keep the tires in while being able to actually steer.

If your front and rear axles are different widths, I wouldn't compensate for the narrow axle by running wheels of 2 different backspacings. Just get spacers for the front so you can keep your backspacing the same on all wheels - don't have to worry about what backspacing to run on your spare then. Just my opinion.

They are off by an inch or two, I wouldn't run different backspacing on the wheels though. I would definately make them all the same so I can rotate them and whatnot. So then the difference between the front and rear widths would stay the same.
