so i have the infamous frame ripple going on under the bed. if i can get a welder soon im planning to box in the frame. i was looking under there and there is a ton of brakets and whatnot. so i have a few questions to those who may have done this already.

1. how did you remount the gas tank? just weld that cross member to the frame plate you just welded in?

2. all the cross members are bolted in to the bottom of the C channel. did you weld those it too or find another way to bolt them in?

i think i had some other questions but cant think of them at the moment.

i do plan on relocating my shocks while im at it and possibly adding a mount for a rear winch. or some type of in bed storage system.

I unbolted or cut out the original gas tank mounts, then plated the inside of the frame. I welded the gas tank mounts back on but raised them to lift the tank ~3" for better ground clearance.

I got rid of the rear crossmember that holds the spare, plated the frame, and then installed a box tube crossmember with shock tabs. The original shock bungs were cut off and plated over. The brake proportioning valve was removed as I use a bias valve now.

ill probably just be cutting the cross members out and re weld them back on. should i go with 1/8" or 3/16" plate?

3/16 would be over kill.... the stock frame is less than 1/8..

yeah i was thinking about that too. i dont think my frame needs to be as thick as my skid plates

I will be boxing my frame this weekend. I took the bed off today and i have some plates that ballistic fab laser cut for me. the plates came out pretty nice, had spots for cut in them so that I dont have to cut the shock mounts off.

i will be cutting out the cross members on friday after i get off work and hopefully between work i will have it all done by the end of the weekend.

here are the frame plates:

here you can see where the frame is tweaked:
