when i tore the axle down there where 2 steel spacers between the spindle and the knuckle... can i get rid of these, or are they needed for some spacing??? one is about 30 thous. and the other is a 1/16 maybe. i think one may have been a dust shield, or what's left of it, not sure on the other. i planned on tossing them, let me know if this is a bad idea..... thanks again for the info!

Just for shits an giggles check see if they are the same thickness all the way around. They actually make tapered shims to correct camber and they go between the knucke and the spindle.

Yeah, I thought of that whe nyou first said that there were two on each side, one was the dust shield, and yeah, the other is a tapered camber shim, you need to assemble the axle and have it aligned, and they can tell you how it needs to be installed on either side, if at all. A friend of mine built a Waggy 44 front for his CJ and when it was all together, the tires looked tipped out on top, like a lifted TTB Ford, we thought the axle was bent, but it all checked out, so the camber shims went in and it's all good now. If you do end up using them, mark them with a letter punch, L or R, with a matching letter on the knuckle so you can duplicate the clocking during a trailside axle joint change.
