I've just purchased a levi's edition jeep cj7 and have no clue what year it is there is no title and half the vin# has been cut out for what must have been a tach. Can any body tell me what years they were made? tried to find history on them and have been unsuccessful! It has a 304v-8,3-spd,dana20 transfer, 44rear,30front any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Not the place to ask this. Non-hardcore forum please.
Not sure about the Levi's part. But the 3 speed was in them from 76-79 i think

If the 44 is factory then yes could only be pre 76 or an 86

Oops I really thought i clicked on non-hardcore sorry! The guy i got it from thought it was an 82. So no title i'm thinking i got a put together one then.
The Levi's option made it's debut in 1975. The package was available in blue or tan and was optional on all CJ's and standard on the Renagade.
If the axles are narrow-trac then the 44 probably isn't stock seeing as you have a CJ7 but, if they are wide-trac you might have an 86 or, a 76-86 CJ7 that someone swapped in a D44.
Like many of our CJ's it could be many years combined to make one functioning CJ and without the vin you'll just be forced to pick a year.

You have a vin on the driver side of the firewall of the engine compartment, that one should not have been tampared with. If it was....... Well, your jeep has no past history that can be known for fact. hell for all you know it could hav been a stolen car without any idenifcation on it anywhere. You would have to work to get the firewall one off, so it should be there.

Depending on Year there is also a partial VIN on the frame above the Passenger side rear axle on top of the frame. It is usually stamped numbers on the top of the frame curve.
That might help.
Also for year there should be an EPA sticker on the grille indicating year that the engine as originally installed was. It usually should things like EGR and vacum hose routing.
But that may be long gone.
