Im going to be buying my first bike soon and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what I should be looking for, I want a streetbike but one that I wont kill myself on. I have ridden a few dirtbikes and my dads harley a couple times so my riding experience is pretty limited. In a month im taking a motorcycle safety class after which I would have my permit so I want to buy the bike before then.

I want a bike that is reliable, dont care how fast it goes but I want it to look cool ... will have about 1000-1500 for either a down payment or just to buy with if its possible.

How tall how much do you way.

Small like me 5'7 150 pounds
a 600cc bike would be fine.
CBR F4 or the yamaha 600s are nice.

What kinda bike you looking for
Sportbike, cruiser, touring?

I'm liking the way the Ducati nockoff wanna looklike it bikes are looking.

I just bought a 2001 Yamaha FZ1 and love it! I did a fair amount of checking into insurance and State Farm kicked everyones ass. As for what bike to get for someone just getting into it two of my friends were in the same situaton and they both bought Suzuki SV650's. They have a nice sporty look but not a full lay down bike like a CBR or such.

Sport bikes rule. Heres what my bike will look like, its a Yamaha FZR600 only mines Red where the Blue is, and Yellow where all the White is. I only paid $1500 for mine, then a few hundred more dollars to get it to where it is now. I dont think ive hit the $2000 mark yet. Thats doing the work on it myself though.

I just bought my second bike. Its a 93 cbr600 f2 and I will tell you that no matter what bike you get they are all fun. stay small in cc (600-750) untill you get more used to rideing.
The bike has a fox rear shock and le front forks...I highly recomend them it makes the hole suspension fully ajustable. with the jet kit and exhuast mods it does wheelies just fine..like I said they are all fun. I only pay like 23 bucks a month in insurance..I payed320 for the year so what ever that works out to.

I'm bias, but I agree on the SV650 I'ts my first bike (if you don't count my Honda Trail 70 when I was 10) Very easy to ride and a blast as well. I've driven my friends CBR600's, 900RR's, Gixxer 750 and a VMAX (Whoa). All from the early 90's, Loved all of them, and now that I'm riding mine, I want something a little more ballsy. I like it on my friends rockets being able to pull wheelies by cracking the trottle so lightly. My SV you really gotta goose it to get any wheelie action.

I would also suggest learning on a dirt bike, much less damaging and expensive. I was tapped on my SV and layed it down, and it cost the driver $1600!! Bet he watches out for bikes in the future

Good Luck, here are some pics of my 2000

I didn't care for that little fairing on the "s". Also it has lower handle bars as well. I liked the grey last time I was at the stealer getting a $13 oil filter!!

I plan on repainting mine (has a shitty one on it right now) all flat black and polishing the tank chrome this winter if I have the time and money. Got to
SV Rider (http://www.svrider.com) for more info.
