everything is apart except this... bolts out, washer off...pulley still on... every directive to the timing belt removal i have read simply says to pull the crankshaft bolt, washer then pulley, is it leaving out the fact i need a puller?
on a 95 4 cyl ranger
i need direct ASAP since its apart in the driveway and is needed in the a.m.
thanks

The pulley should just tap off, use a light touch with a mallet.
The balancer, on the other hand, will require a puller.

Yes it is. Often it is also helpful to put the main bolt back in (not all the way) so that the puller with have something to push against without getting your threars FUBAR
