Whoo-hoo... Got the beast running again this weekend. I can't believe it. Thanks to everyone (Josh, Welderboy) for all your help. Thanks to Dirty Harry for a great deal on the FJ80 Master cylinder. Got the brakes working today and actually drove it around and it didn't fall apart...

We put a Dana 44 in the front with 44044's and a disc brake 9" from about a 78 Lincoln in the rear with 63" Chevy's. Rear spooled with Currie 33 spline shafts, Front ARB (Tanks, Gearman), Moser shafts with 760's. WMS rear is 63", front 64 1/2". Believe it or not, she fits in my new garage too. Just barely though. With bigger tires, I'll have to lower the air pressure to get it in there. But, by Gorsh, she's ALIVE again... :D

:flipoff2: You're :rainbow: :D Maybe you should take jiMMy with you this weekend.... Bahahahaha!!!

Fellers, this is the 'Josh' I mentioned in the first post. He did a ton of work on the axles, springs, shocks, etc. Without all his help, I would still be sitting on blocks.

Those tires do look a little small now, don't they? They have taken me up and down the Con, Fordyce and Hammers though so I can't really complain. And, they're still in good shape. I do have a set of 37" MTR's but I'm gonna hafta do some trimming before I slap em on. I do plan on taking it up for cleanup, if I get a few little issues taken care of, but I'll be taking it easy on the first run and I might just hang out with Big Rich at Loon. I'll be heading up on Sat morning and coming back on Sunday... And no, I won't be painting it Blue... :flipoff2: Maybe camo... :D

I'll get a shot of the garage later... :p

glenn, be honest with yourself. the 37 " MTRs will be much too tall for the toy.

you should really consider trading the 37s for some 35s. hell I'm sure you could find someone that would even toss in a six pack or two of bud light for the swap :D

so, ...

when do you wanna swap tires :flipoff2:

I've got a few questions, if you have the time.

1) How do the 44044's match up with the 63" chevy's? Looks like you've got blocks + longer shackles in the rear ??? Do you like the combo?

2) What size and offset wheels do you have? Tire size? Outside to outside measurements?

3) What did the D44 come out of? Any changes to it's width? Looks to be standard rotation ???

Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to finalize my build up plans before I go and buy any more parts.

Thanks,
Mike

Well, let's see... 1) The 44044's are a bit more arched but not that much. I haven't actually tested them out on the trail as yet. Hopefully this weekend. On the rear, there are no blocks. We made a taller (4" or so) spring mounts out of 3"x6" square, 1/4" wall and longer shackles. I left the overload leaf in the 63" Chevy's. Helps keep axle wrap under control.

2) Wheels are standard cheapie wagon wheels from America's tire. I think the offset is around 3.75" or so. Haven't measured em. I'm running 35x13.5x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws but I have a set of 37x15 MTR's I'm gonna try and fit on there. I haven't measured outside tire to outside tire yet...

3) The front 44 is from a mid 70's Blazer. Standard rotation. We cut the long side about 2 1/2", rotated the knuckles and ended up about 64 1/2, wms-wms (the rear is 63"). It now takes a standard long side shaft from a mid 80's Waggy, so no custom axle shafts needed... 538 gears in the front, 542 (543?) in the rear... Can't wait to test it out. I did ramp it on this huge rock my neighbor has in his front yard and it looked pretty impressive. Definately better than the Superlift system that was on it before. Rides better too... :D:D
