Building a Samurai, transfer case will have 6.5:1 installed but the toyota axles I have are two different sets of gearing...
3.9 up front
4.1 in the rear
Is this close enough that it will not cause problems, or is this going to fry my diffs or transfer case?
This setup seems like it may work...off road the front wheels will turn just slightly faster than the rear, on the road I'll be in 2wheel
This is not a daily driver, but it will be driving to the trails
What do you think, anyone else running this setup...or should I get some 4.10's to swap into the front diff

Personally I would say NO to much of a difference.

if it doesn't see road usage than go for it. well within acceptable.

So the current poll...
1 - Yes
1 - No
This leaves me where I was before I wrote this up...and it's also pretty consistent with what I found in other threads, and why I started this thread...
All seem to be opinions vs actual experience with two different gears...so unless someone tells me they have seen this exact setup fail...I may be the first to find out

I vote no... Why not put 4.10's up front?

i'm voting for 4.10's up front no need to put the extra stress on everything

you should be able to find a 4.10 or 3.90 diff local to you they're both fairly common gear ratios. I have 2 3.90 diffs and a 4.10 diff but I'm in MO...

Better to match them up, unless you're just mudding.
anything else, you'll be stressing the t-case...

run the same gears front and rear. why build hokey shit if you dont have to.

It can be ran in the mud, snow and sand but too much traction will likely break the t-case. I have ran different ratios in 2 vehicles with a bigger difference. If the t-case does not break the vehicle might feel like the brakes are dragging and it might steer a little funny on a high traction surface. Drive it and see, then report back.

6 - No
1 - Yes
1 - Drive it and see
I'll be putting in 4.10's...I plan on putting in an auto locker, and I will also have a lot of money into my t-case so I better do it right from the start
