Well here we go, round two of the Ultra4 Grandslam of Off-road Racing the BITD Ultra4 Silverstate 300. We will be using this thread to attempt to get you as much info as possible from Las Vegas Nevada for the 300 mile race through the Eastern Nevada Desert.

The race will traverse many elevation changes and weather will be on everyones minds as we wait for word of a small storm progression. Pre runners reported standing snow two weeks ago, and the course was diverted around the worst of it. With this latest storm the Ultra4 cars will gain an advantage. Course is fairly smooth with a large contingency of fire roads, silt beds and water crossings. With a lack of the regular miles of whoops it is possible that the Ultra4s will record new top speeds for the class.

This weekends coverage is courtesy of PRP seats, make sure you check out the new PRP factory race program, the new PRP pricing and updated web site. Aaron Wedeking the original owner of PRP seats has returned and hopes to bring back the reputation of the best choice in custom racing seats.

Our still photographer this weekend will be Lewis Prock, KRT here on the Pirate Board, Mike Badami from Pinned TV will be handeling the Contingency film, Adam Woodlee will be our Color Commentary, and Angie Baby will be uploading as fast as she can when ever she finds a connection. Additionally Adam has invited some arm candy to help out. Team Big Ugly will be adding updates as they can and look for other teams to post as well. Hopefully Yoders Team can update as well, as Charlene will be following Yoder around the desert.

Internet connections are going to be a problem this wekend as we will not have the Pimp ass Pirate4x4.com media van with us, but we will do our best. Please take a moment to update the thread with live tracker updates if you can, as we will not have that info in the field.

Exclusive media rights to Sopwith Media will prevent us from coverage of any classes outside Ultra4, but there is a black and green 4 wheel drive car we will attempt to follow as well. This will be experimental all the way so bare with us and please update as you see fit.

So far we have a very strong showing in Ultra4 with 17 cars pre registered or commited to onsite registration. This puts us in one of the largest classes in the BITD Silverstate300.

Your entry list is as follows.
1 4402 Stearns
2 4488 Watson
3 4401 Schneider
4 4452 Beadle
5 4410 Warner
6 4432 Lovell
7 4435 Sacalas
8 4455 Mooneyham
9 4499 Haines
10 4411 Bulloch
11 4434 Yoder
12 4461 Napier
____________________End of pre reg
Known participants not pre registerd
13 Cole 4454
14 Carpenter 4405
15 Klein 4403
16 King Healey 4428
17 Todd McCullen 4422

As you can see from the starting grid that there is going to be a hell of a battle in Ultra4. The rookie Kevin Sterns from Pacific Fabrication has the pole position in the Chevy Blazer, but aspires to finish the race. The class knows better than to under rate a team after the 4435 Big Ugly Team upset the field at the 2009 Vegas to Reno.

Who will win the Ultra4 Silver State 300?

Goodluck to all the teams as we head off to Las Vegas Nevada. You can also follow along on my facebook account. Coverage starts Thursday afternoon.

The definition of irony....

I sold my enclosed trailer, and 3 day's later need to tow my buggy to a race in the snow... FML...

If we're short pit support it will just make for a better post race story, having to get out pad pit for ourselves, as our one lonly pit guy hopefully get's to the pit's on time

good thing Dave Cole is going to take the class and overall win, so the rest of us don't have to race for anything other than fun :homer:

Since we don't have Full blown Pirate Live Coverage this weekend, hopefully we can show potential sponsors the value by kicking up the sales and get the pirate van out to these races.

I have some updates, and thanks to the teams that are calling and snitching-sharing information on each other.:flipoff2:

First, Rumor has it that Ben Napier was yet again allowed to enter the United States and go racing this weekend but he did so after a nearly 24 hour plane trip from Malaysia:eek::eek::eek: You want stick of Gum GI?:grinpimp:
According to inside reports Ben is awaiting Differential parts that are showing up UPS Tomorrow AM. Down to the wire for the Aussie. The Aussie is really serious about this Ultra4 racing as he has been alledgedly Shopping for a chase truck and trailer to keep Stateside.

Pacific fabrication's Kevin Sterns in the 4402 attempted Shock Tuning today with Bilstein Shock Guru Joel Ward but reports confirm that Barstow has been Rained OUT! The 4402 is on a trailer and headed to the Ridgway Compound for a final prep nut and bolt. Joel will attempt final shock Tuning in the AM.

In final news we have on good authority that the 4454 is looking ready to race with nearly a complete rebuild since the King of the Hammers. Final nut and bolt inspection has yield a couple suspect Hiem joints so "Bleeding Wallet" Dave Cole was headed back to the supply house we all love to hate to donate blood.

But wait there's more!
Concern in the Cole racing camp has turned to fearless leader Dave Cole. Dave himself reports "Dipping into the Karma Debt bank" a little too hard.

After Puking his guts out all morning Dave was able to bounce back. " I have not felt this light since the 7th grade" Dave said in an afternoon interview. In his new lighter faster version, Dave than went on to report he was travelling 57 MPH in a 25 MPH zone when he passed a CHP officer half way in on coming traffic. Sure that he was going to jail, Dave pulled to the side of the road. His cell phone chirpped informing him his Karma Bank account had been acessed, and Dave peeled the Fawk out!

We will update as we recieve.

Team Watson Is doing a last minute thrashfest, but the weather is a growing concern. Storm is expected to hit by nightfall, and this provides the possibility that the Watson family will need to transport all the way in potentially bad weather. No major issues just the typical last minute wrenching.

As we turn to the weather, unsubstantiated rumors are that snow has fallen at the upper elevations of the race course. This could make for a very interesting Race, as pre run reports in the snow covered passes reported an hour long wait to make a few of the climbs. Ultra4 cars may want to grab Low range and drive around on top of or over, but this is not KOH and the class one guys might get offended.

I doubt either one of the guys in that car would have much problems with it but from what reports I have heard of that car I am not sure many of the 4400 guys will be able to use him for traction unless he breaks something. I can't wait to see how it works.

Just got home from Cali, made a suicide run to Mound House yesterday via HWY50 from SAC and drank err I mean spun a few wrenchs on the 4401. CONTENDER!!! DSI claims he's going to Sunday drive it, but we all know how thats works. DSI has made some additional tweaks to the car and it should have came home from the exhaust shop today.

BTW when they say the pass is closed due to snow and ice. And your Rental Nissan Shitbox doesnt have chains or even enough power to peel out on ice...make sure you have a full tank of gas. It will help when you BS the Caltrans guys into laughing your ass through the checkpoint saying they'll find you in the morning as long as you have a full tank of gas now. 4.5 hours from S. Lake Tahoe to Sac sounds about right , drifting turns and dodging Bambi and her family....beats suicidal bunnies any night.

If Dave Cole can keep tires on his car, and not outdrive the ass end, he'll finish. I want to see Lovell on the podium, or Sleazy Rick  yeah he's due a win he's been been a loser for too long. :flipoff2:

4401 for the win though, its race, but you got to finish, I'm sure that car and DSI and Tim will get that car over the FL.

Yep, they let me in again!

Well after 60 something hours with little to no sleep, but far too much free airline booze, I'm done.
Tomorrow morning we pick up some parts, button up the Bomber and it's up the road to Vegas.

My new chase truck arrived earlier in the race, and I'm handing over the keys to two guys I've never met, but thanks heaps for volunteering guys. It turned up on the top level of a transport truck, and let's just say that a dually doesn't really fit on a normal 8 car transport trailer. The pics are interesting to say the least, I'll try and get them up. Additionally it turned up with no plates, and the title is in the mail, so I'm not actually sure how legal I am driving it, but I have a piece of paper that says's I'm from Australia, and really the CHP should just be happy I'm driving on the correct side of the road! Maybe Cole could send some karma this way?

I just had a heart to heart with the 4454. Anyway, we have an agreement and we both could use a solid finish this year.

I showed her a map of where the finish line was on her bare chassis. Then she told me about an extra gear that she has that NONE of the other Ultra 4s have...and anytime I need to make a pass, just upshift again and we'll fly right by.

I told her about the reinforced front bumper for punting Easy Rick, and the reinforced rear bumper for blind-ass Aussie driver's named Ben. (But, I'm not naming names.) She was happy to hear about the 16 fire extinguishers we added and bigger steering wheel so I have a clearer view (now my vision isn't obstructed by the dumb steering wheel...I can look under it.)

Well it's almost 3am, again, and I need to get up in a few hours to finish prepping. We will be leaving tonight.

Colo. Update. snow last night not so bad. Jobsites reporting 3" to 5" total but melting fast. Telling owners rep that his meeting with the State inspectors isn't important enough for me to quit reading Pirate. This should allow me to finish work earlier than planned and get on the road.

Car should be ready to go. I spent last night finishing the notes from the prerun and getting them in the GPS. Dad and brother finished the car prep and were putting side panels on at 6:00 last night. Probably loading the trailer as we speak. Don't really know cause they aren't in the office and Verizon lost a switching something or the other in Denver and lost all cell coverage in Western Colorado, southern Wyoming and more.

Car and Chase 1 should leave by mid day. Chase 2 is waiting for me to get off work sometime later and get on the road.

That's not the problem. Kevco doesn't do a pan with one straight and one 45 degree fitting. and in cutting one straight fitting off, the pan de laminated around the flange, and is leaking out the seams. Dave cut the fittings off, and has welded the flange back together, and is in the process of putting new fitting's on.

We will see. :homer:

Word from the front...>>>...>..>...>>>...>.

Shannon Campbell has made his first pass at SilverState Qualifying. RJ Brown reports car was wayyyyYYYyyyy faster then the first two in the tight sections, But needs more motor in the fast sections. We will update as we recieve word on how his qualifier run goes.

Just checked into my Room here at the Aliante, I have a good conection in my room, but not so good anywhere else. I will need to find a Verizon card for tech.

As I type this more word from Qualifying.

The dirt is starting to dry up and the guys on the rev limiters are starting just spin.. Silt beds are now forming.

King Healey is on site and just had breakfast..... Should be a good night tonight.... If your not here you should be.

Qualifier is favoring the class 1500(class1) cars over the Trick Trucks (Trophy trucks) The course is very tight. Fingers crossed that this alos favors the 4x4 Campbell car. Trying to figure out how to get a few pics up.

Shannon looks extremely fast. There is a buggy upside down on the course so they have stopped Qualifying for the moment.

Jeff Knoll

Shannon's run was disrupted by the rolled over car, so his time was not as fast as it could have been.

Breaking News! Shannon Campbell

BITD Offered the Campbell team a re-run of there qualifier due to a rolled over car during the run... Campbell turns down the offer and says he will stick with his time.

One can only assume that this move could be based on course conditions, or Shannon just ran right by the rolled over car. Practice, after all in that situation.:flipoff2:

C'mon!

That concludes our updates for now. We will post up from the bar later tonight.

The weather is expected to be amazing today in the Nevada Desert for the Ultra4 SilverState 300. Teams are already underway and the halls of the Aliante are busy with race ready traffic. A number of the Ultra4 teams left for Alamo last night.

Thanks to Bob Ridgway for the BBQ last night. tailgate style. Awesome.

Casey Folks reports that his advanced recon teams have found no snow on the course, but there are multiple water crossings in the 2 foot deeep range.

Jeff I have to ask...how was the meat cooked? Bob had a unique style when Bender and I lived there. It was called turn the heat up as high as it goes...throw the slab of meat on and let it burn (I mean cook). Don't get me wrong I didn't miss many meals but a 4lb sirloin usually came out weighing about 1lb. Sorry Bob...had to ask:grinpimp:

It would appear as though the 1st 5 miles were a warm-up or who knows parade route. All classes stopped there. The 4400 series will start right after the 1100 series if you are tracking. Not long now before they are racing!

i think by the turnout of 4400 rigs they already earned repsect. As earlier posted by Jeff they moved them from the back of the field to the middle because of the tunrnout. Unofficially it looks like they have the 2nd or 3rd largest class.

Depending on the severity, if the caliper is "broke off", then all they need to do is pinch the line shut (vice grips) and then the they can continue on with 3 wheel breaking.
