: TOTW: Jeep FAQ?

Welcome to the next installment of the

Topic of the Week

This week, the TOTW is going to be a bit different. I'm looking for feedback about some future developments within the Jeep Tech section.

The big question is: Do we need a FAQ?

And if so, what major sections would you suggest be included?

Yes

Waggy Spring/44044's
Outboarding spring hangers
Waggy Axle info
How the sand got in Pinkdudes vagina:flipoff2: :D
Disk brakes
Easy master cyl swaps for beefy axles

Maybe a accumulation of lift info dug up from TOTW's and good topics:confused:

Yes. Simplify the Mission Statement to a few guidelines and make a FAQ top center.

Can we archive TOTW and other great threads to a central place?
Point to other great info sources as appropriate (JU for...well.... JU'ers)
How 'bout some Search hints?

I like nasvik's idea of the archived TOTW. When I am looking for info that has been covered in a TOTW, I have to search for them. No problem for me seeing as how I follow them pretty regularly and usually know if they had something that I needed. However, for the newbie (or anyone for that matter) that doesn't know what was covered it would be nice to have a central area where you could have a listing of those archives right there. It would be nice if a FAQ was put together that not only had a few answers to common questions, but also linked to some of the better threads on the subject. So in addition to giving some basic info on say, OBA setups, it also linked to the OBA TOTW and maybe a thread or two that had been clipped for the relevant info.

Links to search topics & *valuable* threads...

suspension write-ups: 1/4, 3/4 elliptical, 3-links, 4-links, SOA, blah blah blah...

Engine & drivetrain swap  's...

Homebrew fabricator's section, maybe...
(JU has this, dunno if ya wanna copy 'em. Pirate's would be WAY cooler :skull: )

Who's :massey: for us noob's....
aaw shit. I'm dead, now.

I think it would be good but do you really think the dumd asses that dont search now will use this either I dont they will just keep posting " how wide is a waggy 44 and will it fit under my jeep"

An axle section to answer questions such as which is better a 14bolt or a dana 60.

Yeah it's a good idea. I have no problem hitting the search, but sometimes you are searching through dozens of threads. I don't mind a little light reading, but I have no interest in spending a few hours or days reading every post ever written on a 60 or 14 bolt.

See, now even this post will show up! :flipoff2:

Yes, at least for the most popular swaps and set-ups. Like what Lame is talking about, tranny swaps, axles, hi-steer, etc.

As was stated, I think that the TOTW needs links to them. I alsothink that having the major topics that are brought up all the time set up w/ search links for them. I know I have searched for some thintgs and can't seem to get the wording right for the search engine, and then someone else finds it for me really easy.

Also half the searches right now just net: Search you fargot newbie bitch:flipoff2: with no other quality info.

Something like: if someone has waggy springs in their rig, if they could do a quick write up on how it was done, instead of regurgitaing somewhat shaky hearsay information.

That's the problem! Some of the TOTW are pretty good, and have good information. But a couple of them have so much conflicting information or it's just gone to 'Chit-chat' that it's pretty much worthless.

I understand the need to gab, but in the TOTW, we need to keep that to a minimum. There's no need to index a TOTW that is basically "TOTW, one response, 50 people complaining about bigdudes shirt. :flipoff2: "

If you do make an index of TOTW, check them out first, and 'weed out' the 'bad' ones. Perhaps 're-do' the bad to see if better information comes up?

Adding specific info about dana 44, and dana 60 axles wouldn't hurt. Break down of donor vehicles, whether they are kingpin or ball joint fronts, WMS, axle spline count, shaft length, and diameter. Why a corporate 14 bolt is better than a Ford 8.8, and why the superturd 35 kit, and those that use them should be buried in the marianes trench.

Revolvers how not to get more flex.

Info on tires, why all terrains are for mall rigs, and whether 31's will make your ass look fat.

Street locks vs real bead locks.

Onboard air / welder plans.

Raising your gas tank.

How to blend wiring harnesses from your stock Jeep, and donor vehicles.

Acrhive the TOTW into hierarchical folders such as
1. Engine
a. Heads
b. Cam
c. Crank
d. intakew/carb
e. EFI
etc.
2. Body
3. Supension
a. Leaf Springs
b. SOA
c. Coilovers
d.Links
e. etc.
4. Tires
a. SX
b. MTR
c. Krawler
d. :rainbow: Thornbird
e. etc.

The searches are okay but can get pretty tedious when using a common word like "Waggy"

FAQ would be okay but I think it would take a lot of work

you mean you didn't like the 'discussion' regarding building a cage and your material selection? :D

Excellent idea.
