can any one tell me what angle the flanges on the front and rear diff should be on a toyota axles. ?
the axles are off a lj70 same as a hilux 8 inch diff.
i am putting yjs on a set off toyota axles and it hasnt been set up right so when the steering wheel turns the body goes up and down a bit.
my plan is to shim it
thanks micko

make sure you have some real strong spring bolts if you shim it. the angles are whatever angle with point them at your transfer case. different for every vehicle.
some people (me) cut and turn the knuckle balls and the perches. if you search you can find some info on that.
for the back i recommend just cutting off the perches and turning them.

and if your talking about stock angles. just make sure that the turning knuckle is vertical. that should make your lifting problem go away.\
also remember that if you are turning it in place with the tires on the ground it will put more force on the drag link and push on your steering box (attached to your frame) causing that side of the vehicle to lift a little. i was able to notice that on gravel with 35"s
If it's the same as the 8" axles, then the castor needs to be set at about 5-7 degrees positive for the steering to work right, and not get bumpsteer. In the rear, it depends on if you are using a DC type shaft, or a standard shaft with one joint at each end.

yeah, if its the LJ70 CV joint on the back side then you need to set it up pointed at the tcase like EC2469 said.
If you're using the suzuki u-joint then you need to set it up so that the angle of the tcase is the same as the diff. The two should be parellel to each other instead of pointed at one another.

when i set it up i tryed to get the diff angle to 11 degree and the king pin bearing races to 4.
would moving the axle foward on the springs make any changes to the angles, i moved it forward 1 inch
so when you say 5-7 degrees poss thats from where? king pins?
any idea what it will be at the diff? 12-14
i plan on useing stright shafts with out a dc.

how fast you gonna turn the driveshafts? if it's close to highway speed(5000rpms) then you gotta stay at about 3degrees. and both u-joints on the driveshaft have to be withing 2 degrees of each other or you'll get vibration. don't forget to make sure the yokes on each end are aligned, too.
if it's trail only, then you can go bigger angles. there was a chart for this in a 4wd magazine, but I misplaced it somewhere. it tells the speed limit of each angle to keep the u-joints alive. if you wanna point the diff u-joint straight, then you'll need a cvjoint up top to stop the vibes. remember in that case to point the diff u-joint down about 2 degrees so that when it's under torque, it'll come up slightly to zero.
