My steering box cracked yesterday ... I need to get a new one and I dont want a PNP one, I want an actual brand warrantied box (in case this happens again)... something stronger than stock would be cool but even just stock is fine. I would like to get it ASAP, 4WP lists them on their site for $339 but they say it will take 14-21 days. Summit told me to call AGR... before I do that I wanted to see if maybe you guys new of a place that might have them in stock or be able to get them in a hurry.. by Friday if possible. Thanks in advance.

Or if its possible should I just replace that top part? Any idea what would cause this? I just finished my truck and was testing it out, drove around for about an hour or so, ramped it and everything.. then thought everything was cool, went to taco bell and on the way out of the drive-thru I hear a loud crack.. :(

Well that is a pretty weird break. Sure it was not binding somehow i see a steel plate behind it too huh?

Are you running a boosted pump? Also I've not heard good things about the AGR boxes. Second, even rebuilds can't be trusted. Buy a spare box, and rebuild that one.

I was running a crown vic pump (very weak).. originally I was running a my stock 98 ranger rack n pinion pump but the caps on the steering box kept cracking so I thought the pump was putting out too much power and changed to a crown vic and it worked great for a couple days.

So where can I get the parts I need to rebuild?

Same as the last time you broke yor shiat...go to p-n-p and get a new top cap. Most saginaw boxes have interchangable parts. take yor current one and compare.

Only reason im hesitant about buying a new top is I have no idea what caused it to crack and it only had a couple hours driving time on it.. how do I know the new one wont crack as well?

You don't know if the new one will crack, but what do you have to lose? The old one could have been fatigued from the last high pressure pump. Try a new cap...if not, get another box.

The rebuild kit is available from Napa, if I recall it was under $30.00

I got my box from Napa about 2 years ago and have had no problems with it, i had a AGR box in there before and it was junk sent it back twice and it was still never fixed.

I'll second that on the AGR box. I will say that their customer service was very good tho. They turned around the last repair in like 2 days. Last time my AGR box puked, it blew the front seal. Just got it back again so we'll see.... Can't wait for full hydro steer... Go w/stock box or one from West Texas Offroad (http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/index.html) . Some local guys have had good luck w/them... & they got some great tips on their site...

you probably wont be able to find a NEW box, unless one of the light line dealors hapens to have one.. expect to pay a premiom for it mayby more than 300.. remember they havent been produced for about 20 years, so it'd be new old stock..
a re man box would be the most likely replacement..

the only time ive ever seen one of thse caps crack is when the adjusting screw had preload on it ie: improperly adjusted.

you ever get the pump problem cured?

According to their website NAPA sells new boxes fro 189$, the core is 140$ but I dont really care about that. Was hoping to rebuild the old box and keep it as a spare but not for 140$. Add the rebuild kit to that and I could buy another new one.

Regarding the pump, extending the resevoir fixed it but still didnt figure out what was causing level change. It really seemed like air but the pump did not whine after we extended the resevoir and it steered fine. Reason the pump was whiney before was that the level dropped so far that air got in.

Well I will chime in. I sell rebuilt boxes with a one year warrentee for like $205 and the core is $75. I have a few cores on hand and turn around time is like I order it and its here the next day. They keep them on the shelves for me. Top notch and i have neaver had a problem with one of their boxes coming back.

Napa gave me a high cost estimate too, but when I used my AAA discount it came to 125 plus tax. Core wasn't a problem since I find them in the junk yard all the time for 25.00 :D

If you want a really tight box send a good builder to Lee Engineering. It will cost a little more, but they're the best in the business.

Rerard, Didn't you get that box from Subway? If you did they have a few on there shelf in the back, exchange it. If you didn't, call them for one.

Tell ya what Neps,

Grab me some Cores to bring to Tulare. Cores up here are vanishing quickley as the Bronco guys are using them now on the old POS Broncos that only had PS for 2 years total. They make retro kits. I guess they grind off a nub on the case and it fits fine for them. Bastards always wanting what Mother IH gave us......should have bought a Scout 1st then they would not need to kipe our parts...
