Yes I searched. :D
The last Wagoneer axle thread got me thinking.

How similar are these two model 20 axels?
Is the Wagoneer 20 just a heavy-duty version of the CJ 20?
Could I take my gears and Detroit locker out of my CJ 20 and put them in a Wagoneer 20? Then I’d have a stronger axle tubes. I also think my housing might be bent.

I was looking at an application chart for ARB’s and it looked like they had the same specifications for the two 20 axles.

I was just thinking this would be a way to get stronger axles with a six-bolt pattern without a lot of $$. Maybe I could sell my one-piece axles.

My end goal is 35 MTR’s/soa streetable enough to drive from San Jose to the Rubicon without going nuts.

Is this feasible?

I currently have: 83 CJ7 with 32’s-4.56-T18-4.2L (Detroit rear/ARB front)

Exact same center section with thicker axle tubes that wont fall out and one piece axles than are much better. Yes you get 6 lug and it will be wider than CJ axles.

Just swap your parts out of the CJ housing and into the SJ housing.

yeah ditto what the slut said. I am running the waggy 20 with the detroit, 4.56's, and 37 inch MTR's just fine. I also put on disk brakes for about $150. I had gear man set up the gears in the new housing and I got the housing for free. The total setup was about $300. It is a great cheap upgrade if you aren't going to go 60's and have the crap for the 20 already.

here is a shot of the 20 from the bottom

Thanks guys.
I’ll start looking for a cheap Waggy 20.
That’s good news.
Anybody have a boat anchor they want to get rid of? :D

Rokmycj,
Do mind sharing more about the disk break set up?
$150 sounds like it is very doable for me.

Internally, the Waggie 20 and CJ 20 are identicle.

Externally, the Waggie 20 pumpkin has more webbing, thicker tubes (3/8"?), that are welded in, and different length axle shafts.

Its not the same housing at all, but the parts transfer.
