Trying to pull a good birfield off of the inner axle. Cant seem to get it off. How exactly do you do it? Just whack it with the biggest hammer I got? Need the joint, not the axle.
Thanks, Phil

You need to find a peice of pipe with an inner diameter just a little
bigger than the od of the inner axle and a couple inches longer than the inner axle. Stand the pipe up on the ground, start the
inner axle in the pipe just a couple inches into it. Then drop the
axle the birf should become free. You may have to repeat.

the long side axle shaft tends to come out of the birf on the 1st or 2nd try with no effort.. in my experience i have to beat the tar out of the short side shaft and birf combo.. dropping it doesn't work.. i gotta bang it like an ape into that pipe..

That is true, the short side does not have enough weight
to pull itself out of the birf. It also depends on how the inner snap ring is, I have had the ring come out in good shape and other times it has to be cut by the splines of the birf to come free.

Head on down to your local home improvement store & pick up a 3' section of plumber's pipe (the threaded stuff). Or, have you tried your hi-lift jack handle? That might work too. Stuff a rag in the end to prevent damage to those inner axle splines when you slam it on the pavement BTDT! They bugger up easily!
