ok basically, I know dick to shit about CNC milling, like I made some lame inro to engineering junk in the CNC mill last semester. Like I can convert I-deas cad files to the format for the CNC mill here at CU.
I was wondering from people who know how to use them, can you do like splines and shit on a CNC? Cause I was thinking about like even though I just put one in, making rear end parts like mini spools, crap like that? Is that possible? thanks.

ID splines need to be EDMed or broached. OD splines can be milled w/4th axis. This is not as strong as OE rolled splines, but can work. (Currie has been rapin... uh, servicing customers by cutting splines for years) Any other ?s ???

Another common way, probably more common than wire edm is on a shaper.
Right, currie has been raping us, I think $90 to respline a pair of axles is not a bad deal, even if I had a mill with a 4th axis, it probably still wouldn't be worth 90 bucks of my time to f with it.
