got a 63 fj 40 font axle for my project and while looking online for beefy axle shafts for it no website includes the 1963 year in the fitment...... anyone know if regular pickup/runner birfs and inners will work? or if not where and what to get? thanks!

Problem with that is it has the ball and claw axles. The bore is not big enough for the inner seal and birfields.
Look for a 1968 and up axle and upgrade it with minitruck knuckles and birfs.

I have a complete ~~'71 front axle on the other side of Sac from you. We could trade (I only really want the housing and third member) along with some cash if you want. PM me if you're interested.

Find a late model 40 axle housing ('78 & up) if you are looking to insert Longfields, no grinding of the bell will be required to fit the Longfield birf into the housing.
Here are a couple of threads to help you out.

It's a pain in the butt, but you can remove the brass bushing in the 63 housing and install a later model seal, then you'll be able to use the newer birfs and stuff.

Not a big deal in my experience. To quote right from one of your mud threads by Cruiserdrew:
???
You guys are making this way too hard. A 4 inch angle grinder works perfectly, and takes about 5 minutes per side. You only need to remove 25 thousandths or so.
You'll see right away where there isn't enought room to fit the bell into the ball of the housing. Grind right there. A few seconds on the lower lip and a few on the upper lip. Test fit as you go. Eventually it will just slide in. Remember that when you tighten the knuckle nuts, it will slightly compress the housing, so if it fits with out the knuckle, and won't with the knuckle, just loosen the knuckle nuts, insert the birf, and tighten it all up.
