Kind of looks like my buddies Dana 18 on his CJ5, but he doesn't have PTO. Could be a Dana 20 out of a early Bronco??? Just a guess though.

That appears to be an aluminum case so thast rules out the D18/D20 that tj_angel thought it might be and also anything CJ line as Brad thinks it might be..also the little switch on the side rules it out as being in a early Jeep and the mounts are completely different from the Jeep style and it doesn't look anything like the D18/20/300.. My first thought was an early Toyota Landcruiser or a Sammy but the case appears to mount in the vehicle as it sits in the second photo..so I have no Idea what it is..

It seems to be a divorced T-case made of aluminum with centered front and rear outputs. The front output appears to have a groove for a V-belt. I have no idea what would use a case like that. Sounds almost like a tractor or maybe military.

Did any Jeep ever COME with a divorced case?

It could be that or for one of those 4WD forklifts.

That's no Jeep part (who said Dana 18 or Early Bronco Dana 20? come here so I can smack you!) MAYBE some sort of 6x6 part, but the aluminium case kind rules out any older rigs, looks like some sort of agricultural piece, maybe the forklift, who knows. It's kinda cool though.

Divorce 20 out of a nissan? Yes they did have 'em for a couple years.:flipoff2:

I don't think that is a v-belt, it is a flat flang and the case behind it makes it look like a v-belt. Looks kinda like a Sammy case... but only kinda.

Hmmm.....I'm liking the Nissan idea, the shifter looks right, but it's turned funny, and those early 80's Nissan divorced cases used some funky driveshaft yokes that might look like that. I might have to flip the one at my property over and take a look at how it's mounted. Something in the pic to give it some scale woule be nice, it looks huge for some reason.

A size reference would be helpful.
I know big rig t-cases are always divorced, and commonly use similar flanges for the d-shafts. The top flange would be input, the lowers would be the outputs.
Another possibility would be a PTO drop box, where the top flange is a PTO drive, and the lower flanges are both vehicle driveline.

The one SNAFU is that I have never seen anything in the heavy truck field that used an aluminum case.

You know, now that you mention it, it probably is a Nissan case. I remember test driving one when I was in High School (didn't buy it) and the t-case lever was in a really goofy location-- kinda right between the seats further back than most vehicles--and you pulled UP on it to shift it.

I remember that all the way down was 2HI and then it went 4Hi, N, 4Lo as you'd expect. I suppose you could check that, but it doesn't really prove anything. If it was different it would rule it out though...

I'm voting Nissan for now.

Yeah, I bought an '83 Nissan quite a few years ago, for $50, drove it back and forth to work and wheeled the snot out of it (33's with gas axe fender flares) while I was building a different truck, tough little SOB and if you lay that case horizontal with those mounting ears sticking up it will look like the Nissan case.

I still have that Nissan, it's filled with scrap metal out at my property and propably still runs, we smashed the doors so bad we had to cut them off, and the gas tank is held up by a cable through the bed floor, and....it only has three wheels and I drove it to where it's at that way.

I got hooked on jumping snowbanks with it one winter and a particularly aggressive jump ended up with a hard landing and a tire rolling away from me while I ground to a hault. I crushed the wheelbearings on the passenger side and the whole hub rotor and caliper left the vehicle. I drove it three miles with no pass side front wheel, and no brakes. All icy gravel roads, in 1st, 4low, about 6000rpm, and about 3mph, the whole time with a really bad pull to the right.

Sorry for the techless padfest reminiss, but it's slow today at work and I'm feeling a little bored.

THANKS for all the info (even the guesses).

Here's some more clues for you all...did I mention there's a prize for he who guesses correct? Here's some more CLUES:

I've got a couple more pics (smaller) that show it's relative size a bit better (it is about half as tall as a bicycle tire).

http://members.shaw.ca/darrenlynch/DSCF0053.JPG

Notice the fill/drain holes in this pic...I'm pretty sure it doesn't mount horizontal.

http://members.shaw.ca/darrenlynch/DSCF0054.JPG

It does appear to have 2hi, N, 4hi, 4lo for gears (all appear to work smoothly too...4lo is 2:1 ratio if that means anything).

The top flange is input. the one on the right in this pic to the front the left to the rear.

I'm guessing it weighs in around 50lb+

The story behind it is that my friends landlord told him to turf some things around his place...this was sitting under his deck no idea who's it was or what they drove.

It's from calgary, AB...so tractor, or heavy duty equip of sorts is definately possible.

Look how the shifter is, it would accomidate the F-ed up Nissan shift pattern.

Definitely nissan case.... I am positive. We have a couple of these laying around the shop for whatever reason. One thing that I have seen done with them is to make a poor mans dual case setup for a yota or other small vehicle. Have a good one.

K so what the heck should I do with the thing? What's it worth and do you think anyone would want it? I don't see it fitting under my XJ any time soon.
