Hey guys, I am looking for a group to go wheeling with around Chicago. I have a couple friends that I usually go to the Cliffs with but they are starting to fall away from the sport. Now they only go wheeling like once a summer. I wanna get out at least a couple times a month. I just picked up a 1959 CJ and I want to go for a test run at the Cliffs before I get out to the Badlands.

Anyone got anything going on?

A group of us are going to take our bikes/quads up to the Cliffs on May 8th. We also plan to take trucks/bikes/quads over to the Badlands on the weekend of June 5th. That weekend, they are having a TREC race. If you haven't been to the Badlands to see one of these races, I would highly recommend that you go!

What is a TREC race?

What is a TREC race?

In one word, Awesome.

Trail Racing Endurance Circuit.

Bunch of beat up rigs racing with high horsepower tube buggies racing with side by sides all on the same course at the same time.

I think the course for the last race was 9 miles? Anyways they race all through the Badlands and its sweet.

edit: Just wanted to add my affiliation with Earth Resin. I can't make the May 8th trip but I'll be at the Badlands on June 5th with the rest of the crew for sure :D

Hey scott1968, Me and about 5 other trucks are going to the Cliffs on May 16th. I am actually surprised that everyone got their act together enough to organize a trip. You are welcome to join us if you want. We usually wheel from open to close so I'd bring some lunch. PM me if you are able to join us.

Hey 4point0, if you'd like to wheel with a very friendly and fun local club, check out http://ddoffroad.com/. We accept all 4x4's (not just Jeeps) into the club, you don't have to be sponsored to join (we're not a union or gang), we just enjoy wheeling and attending events together without political BS. We're also family friendly and growing fast. Although there is a club calendar on the website, anytime 2 or more members decide to plan a wheelin' trip (legally - our members don't tolerate illegal off-roading), the club will announce and add the planned trip for everyone to consider. The club belongs to it's member's, and not a board who dictates club life. We belong to TreadLightly!, Adopt-A-Highway (Illinois) and give back to the community whenever possible. "Down & Dirty Off Road is a not-for-profit org.

A note about the forums; what you will see is the general public forums of our club. We welcome people to check us out online as well as at one of our monthly meetings. Anyway, official members also have a complete private forum section there too. We have members from all over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. We'd enjoy meeting you sometime.

Any of you guys coming down to wheel and watch the race this weekend? There is a new vehicle class that will be attending this event and from the way it sounds, we are hoping for increased attendance for races and spectators.

The new class is for 2wd desert style race trucks and it should add a new level of challange as this guys try to make it through the rugged terrain of the Badlands.

We have had a couple 2wd guys come out for the last two races, but for this event there is suppose to be a bunch that are coming out!

Hope to see you there!

Yes, as always :D

Were you at the badlands on june 6th, and were by any chance by those deep mud holes on the oragange trail around 330ish with that black bronco? If so i was in that group of yotas and we drove right past ya, i should have yelled or something but it didnt dawn on me until later. I was in the white 02 taco, the 2nd nicests looking truck in the group (when compared to bunch of flatbedded beat up 4runners lol) and the least muddy!

Sure was! I think I remember seeing you. Pretty clean little truck if I remember right.

We were contemplating when to leave the park, and I suggested running Orange one more time before we leave. I took the bypass (I fawkin hate mud) and he decided to give it a go since it was the last trail of the day.

Ended up buried of course, and had his 8k lb winch smoking.

I went back to camp with his buddy to try and find a snatch block or a shovel. No luck. I was really surprised they didn't have one at the badlands shop. By the time we made it back to him some jeepers winched him out backwards. We finished the trail and called it a day.

Yea i avoided that mess, i hate mud as well. Thanks on the truck!! WE did the rest of orange then hit up that rock garden if you take a easy right at the end of the road by the lower parking lot. We then called it a day, and i think were the last ones out of the park lol!!

Yeah its nuts how the park clears out on Sunday. Kinda nice. We went to the "pond" by the lower parking lot to just cruise through and 'wash off.' He ended up getting something wet, truck died, and wouldn't start. I pulled him to camp.

By that time it must've dried out or something, so he drove it to the pressure wash area and pressure washed it, which caused it to not start again.

I pulled him back to camp once again. It was 5pm their time before I got out of there. Good weekend though.
