: Going holley, should i go double pumper? HELP
LeviGarrett76 10-16-2002, 12:20 AM Alright guys, im tired of fooling with my edelbrock 1407(750cfm)
I know i can get her tuned better with the Holley, but what should i go with? Im looking at the 750 or 800 double pumper, or the 750 vacuum secondary carb, maybe even the 770 street avenger?. This is for my truck listed below with a 473ci..it has a performer rpm intake, 9.7:1 compression, comp cam Xtreme 4x4 226/234 duration, roller rocker, 2.19/1.76 valves, ported exhaust w/ bowl work, stright up timingchain. Dual 3 inch flows and 1 3/4 L&L headers.
Im looking for people with some experiance running these carbs. I want crisp throttle response, but i also need that neck snapping top end horsepower. This truck is not driven daily very often, and sees alot of high revving mud action. Tunability is also a factor. I never could seem to get my edelbrock to run the way i want, even after many different rod/jet/spring setups. Come on guys

firegod33 10-16-2002, 01:01 PM I gave away two Holleys, when I put on my Edelbrock. As soon as I got rid of the Holley, I got rid of all my problems. I'd stick with the Edelbrock, and forget the idea of Holley, altogether. The damn power valves blow, constantly, the jets need to be changed, if the temp changes 1/2 a degree, and to stop the thing from flooding, you have to dump even more time and money into the carb.
If you really want to change the carb, put it on the shelf and put on a factory fuel injection set-up.
LeviGarrett76 10-16-2002, 10:06 PM i have triedto get my edelbrock right, it never seems to be just right, when i fix one thing, another problem pops up:mad:
id love to go factory fuel injection....where do i find out about it, will factory flow enough to keep my motor happy?
firegod33 10-17-2002, 06:25 AM Adding EFI won't be easy, or cheap, by any stretch of the imagination. The end results are worthwhile, though.
Here are a few places to look, to get started. I'm sure there are other folks, on this board that can help, as well.

If I can find anything Ford specific, I'll let you know.
You might also want to get in touch with L&L. They can probably help you out, with more information.
This information is of interest to me too. I'm planning on swapping in an injected 460, in my '92 Bronco, at some point.
WhiskeyTango 10-17-2002, 09:45 AM This may not help you out, but I'm throwing in a 460+ once the 351M gives out in my 78F150. I thought of possibly getting a stock Ford EFI off an early 90's f250 and f350?
Anyone else done this swap?
masterbeavis 10-20-2002, 06:15 PM If you have your heart set on a going back to a holley, use a vacuum secondaried carb. Get one of those quick change spring kits, install it, and you are good to go. If you dont have the revvs up enough with a double pumper, and you punch it, the motor will bog down and stall, BTDT! With the vacuum secondaries, you can change the spring so that the secondaries open sooner, but wont open up too soon (read:when the motor needs the extra air and fuel, not when you "think" it needs it). I am running a 33102-2 (750 CFM, vac sec) on my 460 powerd '77 lowboy, and I have all the neck snappin power I can handle.
LeviGarrett76 10-20-2002, 08:20 PM im goin with the 750 vac secondary... ill probsably get it in the next few weeks....im almost done swapping bodies. Now would be a perfect time to take out my chassis exit headers so we can trade:D , i still want fenderwell exits. O well thanks:smokin:
