Wes in TN 10-16-2002, 08:44 AM Here's my front back when I started the buildup.

It's big, it's heavy, and it sticks out too far but maybe it will give you some inspiration. It's made out of 3/16" plate and 2X4X3/16" channel with 1/8" diamond plate on top.
Here's my rear wrap-around with the 1/4 panels cut out.

It's made out of 2X6X1/8" square tube. It's alot lighter than the front obviously but it dents when you impact a rock or tree unlike the front.
Here's a poser shot showing my terrible approach angle and the side of the rear bumper.

If you want some advice keep everything light, simple and tucked up as close as possible. My next front bumper will be 3X6X3/16 square tube with the bumper mounted in front of the grill. Happy fabbing.

I'd like to see an underhood pic of where/how the braces attach. Is it purely cosmetic?
4Bangler 10-16-2002, 11:02 AM Yeah, it's pretty cosmetic, I think it just bolts to the core support, but I've seen some big fellas sit on it and it didn't move. I think it's got a winch on it now, and different tow bar mounts. The owner's brother is TLH Off-Road, and Ironman Off-Road is a good friend of thiers, they both do really clean work.
hjeepxj 10-16-2002, 11:20 AM Wes in TN, i like your rear bumper, how did you mount it?

Yeah, figured they braced to the rad support.
I have a Hanson XJ front bumper and was thinking something similar to that but i can see the rad being pushed into the fan if the brace were to make heavy contact with an obstacle.
Thanks for the input.

Wes in TN, i like your rear bumper, how did you mount it?
It's mounted to the 8 bolts that held the stock bumper. I may tie it into the hitch mounting locations some day if I decide to add a tire carrier but it's held up to almost a year of abuse as is.
Build one and spend around $100-$200 on steel, and beuild it exactly how you want it...custom is so satisfying.

the bolts dont go all the way through...is the bottom of it open? where did you put the bolts through?

A 1/4" plate is bolted to the holes where the factory bumper mounted then a piece of 2X2" hitch tube about 2-3" long is welded to that and the main body of the bumper is welded to the hitch tube. Hope that clears it up.
Here's a pic of one I built, I still need to do the grille guard. :D

It is built to fit a Warn HS9500. Steel cost was about $75.00 with a bunch of it left over.
a link if the pic won't show

If you hate XJ owners so much then why do you make it a point to answer XJ related threads with......go to/search NAXJA? Trying to get accepted?
jeepmauler 10-17-2002, 12:25 PM LOL.......LOL.......There is a site that caters to nothing but XJ's and their owners. If people really wanted answers to there questions they should just cut to the chase and ask there, not on an open jeep forum on a BBS where one in a thousand have a cherokee and the rest think we're a bunch of fags!!
