What is the typical transmission temperature for a TH350...Mine runs between 140 and 180 (exhaust had to be routed next to pan so when i sit for a long period of time it creeps to 180 and stops).
Is this alright/normal, or do I need to go with a larger cooler than the one I have.

That's about normal. When it starts getting up over 250-300 it's time to shut it down for a while.
Trans temp guage saved my tranny many a time back when I had one in my Cutlass and now that I'm playing in the mud with the Toy I probably should get another one.:D

140-150 would be about perfect..
one of the trany guru's at tci told me that for every 10 degree drop in trany temp you double the life of it.. and ive seen that printed in a couple mags and in some books..

About 6" downstream from the output of the upper house, mounted in a t-fitting hardline... So its the temp coming out of the tranny before it goes to the external filter, in-radiator filter, and then the external cooler. That and the 2 quart deeper pan I run between 9 and 11 quarts of fluid...all hardlines as well except about 6" of HP 3/8 hose to attach the ext cooler.
