HI, I am going to take the TH350 out of my 79 Jimmy and put in a SM465. Has anyone done this swap? It seems like it should be fairly straight forward...are there any big hangups? I am assuming that I will have to buy a new flywheel/bellhousing/cluth assembly because my parts truck that I am taking all this out if has an Isuzu 6BB1 inline 6 Diesel in it. Just looking for a little advise here. Thanks.

The SM465 is out of a Isuzu???
I have replaced a TH350 with a SM465 on my old 76 Blazer. It was pretty straight forward, getting all of the needed parts took time though. You will need a pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch set, bellhousing, fork, starter (flywheel tooth count is different), pedal assy, accuating arm, linkage from frame to bellhousing.
You will have to cut two holes in the floorboard, one in the hump for the tranny shifter, and the other on the floor for the accuating rod. the accuating rod runs from the pedal to the frame to bellhousing linkage. Most blazer have a stamped area in the floor board that marks the place the accuating rod runs through, so it easy to figure out where to cut the hole. My Blazer also had dimples in the floor where the accuator rod boot mounting holes are. You'll have to eyeball the hole for the tranny hump, unless you have a factory 4 speed hump.
You will also have to spice into your harness for the backup light switch located on the tranny.
If I remeber correctly I also had to redrill the tranny xfer case frame mounts for the cross member.:skull:

No, the SM465 isn't out of an Isuzu... My 74 3/4 ton has an Isuzu inline 6 5.4 liter diesel in it. I have the complete running / driving truck so the pedal assy., xmembers, etc... are not a problem. I guess I am probably going to have to buy a bellhousing, clutch assy, flywheel, and a starter then huh? Probably be able to get everything but the clutch at the wrecking yard I hope... What diameter clutch do I use, or does that depend on what flywheel I get?

There are two different size flywheels, an 11" and 12". The larger one for heavy duty use. I ran the 11" with a centerforce clutch and had 0 problems.
Not sure if a chevy bellhousing or flywheel will bolt up to the Isuzu though, that might be your snag.:skull:

no no no, it ALREADY is bolted to an Isuzu! The Isuzu diesel is in my 74 3/4 ton parts truck. I am taking the tranny/tcase/and axles out of the 74 and putting them in my 79 Jimmy. I need to get the SM465 mated back up to my 350.

The starter is the same, basically straight forward stuff.I'd try and get an "hydro-assisted unit".....very easy on the left leg,and no linkage to snag off!Grab the pedal assembly and pull the steering column to install.Eay trick, remove the trans tunnel to install the trans.the driveshafts will be different lengths, depending on the T-case.I did this conversion 4 months ago......2 days, but I would'nt go back to a slush box!
