What are the pros/cons of using a pintle vs using a ball hitch?
pintles can pull more weight but are noisier because of the loose fit?
Just curious.

I don't mind mine, but if it were easier to swap out, I probably would. My biggest issue, right now, is that they're fairly unlockable, unlike ball hitches.
They all have different ratings, so don't assume your hook is good for 12k lb. or whatever. Also, don't buy a hook without a rating on it.

The pintles besides the noise can be a bit more squirly if the trailer is not loaded properly (trailer sway because of inadequate tongue weight is maginified by the looseness of the trailer conection. But they sure are nice when off-road when pulling your trailer where it really should not be in the first place.

If you go to a pintle hook like they use on big rig trucks they have a snubber in it to take the slop out.:D

If you decide to go pivoting pintle, think about limiting the twist to about 270 deg. It will keep it from going all the way over.
