Has anybody tried the Deluxe FJ40 Power Steering Kit sold by JT Outfitters (http://www.jtoutfitters.com/deluxe-power-steering-fj40-land-cruiser-p-2694.html?osCsid=lnjjtrquq4e0ojraqhamt4bav5)? Any comments on how it works and if its worth the money? Or any suggestions to other kits? I'm running a non-us (left hand drive) 4.2l 1979 FJ40. I'd like to keep the car looking as original as possible.

I am running the JT outfitter kit, I don't know if it was thier "deluxe" kit. Do a search on them, I have had a couple good but mostly bad experiances with them. The kit has trouble with 33 inch tires, and it took for ever to get. Once I got it, the "kit" wasn't complete, important fittings I needed were missing and when I called to ask about their complete kit thier answer was "oh thats not included". this setback required me to order the needed part from toyota and added a few extra days of down time. That is only one of my experiances with JT. Even though I spent the money on thier kit I am going to eventually have to switch to saginaw anyways so that expensive upgrade was wasted

Thanks bonesaw! Do you remember exactly what was missing in the kit? The "deluxe" kit includes the gearbox, the "standard" one does not. Do you know where they sell the saginaw as a kit? Only problem I have with that one is apparently it requires a lot of work and does not LOOK factory (From photos I've seen). Problem is I see no reviews form people that have tried JT's deluxe kit...

I can tell you one thing about JT Outfitters, I doubt their kit will look factory. All of the fabricated peices I've ever seen from them are prety raw.

i won't buy anything from those clowns. anything i've seen that they "fabricated" had to be modified in order to even bolt up, nevermind work properly.
i think you'd be better off putting together your own kit. you'll end up with much higher quality components at about the same cost. and it'll work.

I hear that...I had the same experience with them..not so good..bought a T-case saver..did not bolt up...So, I got the set from Valley Hybrids-the T-case saver and nose cone ring.....awesome stuff...clean-bolted right up to my 66 FJ45 Shortbed...Thanks George...

I have not seen their kit, but it seems to me a grand for that one is not worth it. I think factory steering will always feel loose compared to Saginaw due to all the drag links.
Their kit does not include any new tie rod ends or the other pieces that are going to cause sloppy steering.
You can do a Saginaw conversion for half the price, even with a new box, though does require some minor welding. I think their plate needs to be welded on too though.
Is that an FJ60 power steering box? I bet you can get that part cheaper elsewhere.
There is a LOT of information and suppliers for fj-40 Power steer kits. 4x4 Labs has my fav kit. I have been running on similar for 12 years: http://www.4x4labs.com/products/steering/saginaw-power-steering-frame-plates/

I would not trust nor would I buy any of their kits. They don't design or innovate. They'll copy someone else's design and sell it as their own.
Example: Reddog's Transfer case saver.
JT Outfitters sucks.

There are much better alternatives. I would not hesitate to buy anything from Valley Hybrids (orangefj45). Georg is a stand up guy and makes and sells only high quality parts.
