Does any one have any idea who makes the rotary positioner that baileigh uses for their Idx tube positioning tables? I can't seem to find a a rotary table with a thru hole, much less one with a 2.5" opening.

Looking to fit it to a jd2 model 3 or possibly a baileigh RDB -050

Another idea I had was to use a harbor freight 6" horizontal/vertical rotary indexer with a mt2 taper

and a 2'' Mt2 mini chuck

Then add a few custom sliding v rollers to support the full length of the tube.

Similar to this but smaller. and better built http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/370x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_756.jpg

The down fall of the above would be that I would need a 20' table which means a very large foot print in the shop. I could design it to be broken down when not in use though so it may be possible to over come.

Btw baileigh equipment rocks. Ive got a few pieces and have two others on back order right now. I'd love to just purchase the baileigh indexer but with a price tag of 4k I believe I can build something comparable that will fit my application.

You may be able to start with a used lathe headstock.

Quick Ebay find:

The larger ones will have large thru-holes and they'll all have the means to bolt something to the bottom, as well as good bearings and of course, a chuck mount.

You might look up linear shafting (I Think?) on Mcmaster for rails.
