: coilover coils for suspension without the coilover shock?

I am looking at different options for coil suspension on the rear of my zuk buggy. I want something that will be specifically calibrated but I dont have the coin for the full coil-over shock at every corner. Has anyone ever used a plain coilover coil without the shock system and mounted it like a regular coil? what would be the advantages or disadvantages of this setup. For me it would make mounting easier since I am using the offset dana-44 axle and I dont have a lot of room on the short side with the 3-link mounting bracketry.

Spence why not just use the HAl spring:confused: they are cheap($36) and they have been on samys before, stock, toy, and dana have used these

would there not be a problem with the coils becoming permanently warped/bent from being severly compressed and end up being all bowed out??

what spring rate should I be looking at. I will be running a kick motor up front and bobbed bed in the rear with an external roll cage all around. ??!!?? the 110# ones sound smashing for the rear in the 14" length

Just a thought I am using TJ springs 150# fronts on all 4 corners till the money ferry drops off some Fox coilovers. and uncompressed hieght is 17"

Well I know Shaffer was running the 130's front and rear, and he had a 16V. His kits to date run the 150's front and rear, and 14" tall.

does anyone know the compressed heigth of those 150# coils under a 1.6? I am not very good at calculating spring compression with a given spring rate.

I guess would depent on it one would have a winch, or no winch type of deal.

My buddy's Samurai has the 150's and I think he's at aroun 11" compressed in front. He only has a 1300 but has a 9000i and a double 2" tube front bumper 3/16" thick.

there isn't really that much of a difference in weight between the 1300 and 1600 is there? I know it is probably 40 lbs of intake runners and such but it cant be that much?!?

You canīt even perceive the difference in weight between the two..

The shipping weight for a 1300 is 94 lbs and for 1600 i would say maybee 100 lbs but not sure on that one:p
