Around here we can get tubing and yes its real tube not pipe
that is sized to fit pipe dies. My supplier calls it handrail tube (not pipe they sweared on their lifes its tube after I told them about the nay sayers here.) it comes in a bunch of sizes 1"5/8,1.9" and a bunch of others..100" and.125 wall.

its totaly round not like pipe looks just like the normally used tubing. We by alot of steel so I don't know what the normal price is but we get it for $35 canadian a 24' length for 1.9 x .125. I built my buggy out of it, I build rocksliders, bumpers, and even cages for van bus conversions that are goverment tested to withstand impacts and rollovers...nothings ever failed.

...its tube................:D

The only difference betwen HREW tube and DOM tube is the DOM is Drawn Over a Mandrel during/after(?) the welding process to clean up the inside dia where the seam is. This process also relieves the weld and gives the DOM tube more strength. I don't know how pipe is made but I am sure there is some welding involved with some types. The big giveaway is how it's measured. Tube is measured by the OD, pipe by the ID.

1.66 od ( close, but not 1 5/8 od) and 1.9 od is pipe in my book. I strongly suspect that ERW pipe and tubing are pretty much manufactured the same way (same people make both products). What's amazing is that the people at the steel counter don't know there own product. My .01 :D

I've heard this hear before so I did some searching and asked alot of questions... from everyone I talked to its tube not pipe...its even in a totaly different section of their cat. I'm sure my guys are knowledgable. big place not your usual little tiny steel supply shop we probably do a million dollars worth of business with them every year.

It sure bends nice any how...and I use real tube benders...
