: New Shop toy/ project...need engine help
BnTMike 10-17-2002, 04:47 PM K I dont know crap about 2 stroke golf cart motors but for starters its gettin a full cage and bumpers, polaris snowmobile coilovers, quad tires, and a fat paint job... It has a Yamaha engine I think... Anyone ever put a 125cc MC bike motor in one and still run the "push pedal and go" trans... ???
I thought it would be sweet for sandwich runs down the street and cruisin CAL ROCS events in...NO MORE WALKING UP THAT DAMN HILL!!!!

Wilson 10-17-2002, 05:03 PM I've got a built 250 with a regeared trans that would work nicely:flipoff2:
Wilson 10-17-2002, 05:04 PM Seriously though, if you have the motor, make it a shifter cart. The linkage would be easy to set up and then you have selectable gearing and a much faster top speed.
ForestCam 10-17-2002, 05:05 PM MC engine won't work unless you don't care about reverse.
Gas golf carts get reverse by running the engine backwards, that is unless Yamaha does something different then EZ-GO and Cushman.
What you can do to get more speed out of them is disable the govenor.
BTW the "push the pedal and go trans" and you call it is a Salsbury Clutch, like a snowmobile.
tommybronco 10-17-2002, 05:13 PM Hell yes mikey!!!
That thing is sick. Man i was the one running up and down the hill that day in JV. boy was i tired. And at Moonrocks too. I am getting my O face going from half way around the world thinking about criusing that for sub sandwiches and parts. Who cares about reverse. Slap cutting brakes on it and just pivot that bitch.
CAn i drive? PPPPPPPPPPllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssse
BnTMike 10-17-2002, 05:17 PM OK my clutch named after a steak... great... so what do I do.. I need reverse...?? Its got a mucho grande muffler as to not disturb the golfers... mabye a new exuast and since its 2 stroke can I put new "reeds" in it... huh huh.... 2 stroke lingo...have no idea .. but whatever

BnTMike 10-17-2002, 05:19 PM SWEET TOMMMY!!! When you get home we will have a kegger at the shop and have golf cart jumping!!!

ForestCam 10-17-2002, 05:30 PM Actually carts have a GREAT motor, I mean they're ment t run forever. The EZ's we had at the course I worked at only had one maijor problem, the oil injector would fail. That's how we found out they use a 50:1 ratio.
Build a less restrictive muffler and remove the govenor and you'll be suprised at how fast it'll go.:D
One thing though, electric carts are faster and have more power.:p

FJ-Dave 10-17-2002, 06:21 PM make a shifter, and get a trany from an old harley 45 tryke, 3 forward gears and reverse, use it as a doubler.
HNRYS69 10-17-2002, 07:02 PM HAHA golfcarttrader owns. Thanks for the link
bent70 10-17-2002, 07:23 PM I'm sure the motors are similar to their motorcyle counterparts. You can probably upgrade the carb and the exhast. Mine is a 4-stroke and pulls hard enough to do wheelys with a little help in weight transfer:D . I have my governer adjusted out a little and its pretty fast but sucks alot them the gov kicks in. If you figure out how to disconect it let me know.
Mine has enough torque that I use it to pull the skiff or jetski to the docks and can launch them with ease.( that at least 400-600 pounds)
Share how you lift it too when your done or in progress.
surfyota 10-17-2002, 07:24 PM How much did that g-ride set you back? Cant wait to see the build up. HAHA.
CrazyCraig 10-17-2002, 07:28 PM just shoe-horn a snowmobile motor in there, the 600CC are good for at least 100mph

IronBenderII 10-17-2002, 08:45 PM Get a motor from a Yamaha Quad! You can go with the Warrior which has a 350 or if you have any hair on your ass at all you'll go with the Raptor. 660 cc's of huge power. NOS?

wes8517 10-17-2002, 09:33 PM go to a junkyard, there are bound to be tons of wrecked 4 wheelers out there, or just buy an old one and rebuild the motor and swap in the tranny, that way you have a few gears too! tons of places make lift kit for these bad boys, throw on a camo paint job, rollcage (if youve seen the new jackass movie youll know that the top doesnt hold up during a roll, and some atv mud tires, and youre set!
