: 2010 Line Mountain 3.5 Miler
92redyj 05-16-2010, 04:56 PM Who is planning on racing the 3.5 Miler this year on June 12th? Some of these guys came out to our RCROCS endurance race and I think we will be showing up in force this year.
I'll be there: Matt Happick #515 8 Cylinder class
If you need info on the race it can be found at www.lm4w.org
broncolou 05-16-2010, 04:58 PM You know I will be there.....not sure if i am going LWB or V8.:D
RokYota 05-16-2010, 05:09 PM Aww Hell yea !!!!! I'm in........:D From what I here the 6 Cyl class is gonna be stacked with rock racers this year. Just gotta sort out my fuel issue, weld in a few peices of tubing, change a few fitting on the steering & put the skins and nets on. I'd like to wrap my headers and swap out the muffler too. Kinda tossing the idea around of installing a open diff in the rear.......
balduccibrosracing 05-16-2010, 06:42 PM we'll be there, #570 6 cylinder class, I can't wait...should be a good time:smokin:
4Low Digital Labs 05-16-2010, 07:36 PM i'll probably come up and poke around... if anyone needs an extra set of hands on their crew, just let me know. i can work a wrench or a hammer since i don't need to work the camera
heavychevyII 05-17-2010, 04:19 AM It doesn't look like we'll make this one. I've got some repairs and my Mother in Law will be here from Colorado the week before. I'll be scheduling work out of town so I don't murder her.:shaking:
I'll try to make the race if anybody needs help.
imagineer 05-17-2010, 05:12 AM What town is the race in?
RokYota 05-17-2010, 05:16 AM What town is the race in?
Dornsife, PA...............it's about the same time on the road as going to Rausch (for me)
vetteboy79 05-17-2010, 05:28 AM As long as I get the rear coilover stuff finished, I'm planning on being there in the 6 cyl class as well. :)
gr8whytyj 05-17-2010, 05:49 AM The breadtruck will be haulin buns through the woods June 12th in the 6cyl class.
92redyj 05-17-2010, 07:31 AM The breadtruck will be haulin buns through the woods June 12th in the 6cyl class.
Practice race at the farm this weekend? :D
PENNPO 05-24-2010, 08:01 PM I see a few of you guys are makin your way up from MD to race. How much for a bushel of blue claws shipped up to the race?
ne14jpn 05-24-2010, 09:02 PM #921 6cyl class...picking up the bread that bounces out:bender:

Lets represent the rock donkeys with some strong finishes!
4Low Digital Labs 06-07-2010, 06:35 AM you guys have a schedule as to when you'll be racing?
RokYota 06-07-2010, 07:48 AM I talked Dozer Dan into co-dawg'd..........this should be a good time :D
92redyj 06-07-2010, 09:12 AM you guys have a schedule as to when you'll be racing?
No idea, I've never been before. I saw you had mentioned that you will be up and could lend a hand if anyone needs. I think a bunch of us RCROCS guys are planning to set up a shared pit area for all of our guys. I'm sure we could use extra hands if you are around the pit area at any point in the race.
vetteboy79 06-07-2010, 09:42 AM I think the race starts around 10 or 11 o'clock...
It's a staggered start, and everyone races against everyone. No separate classes. Makes it interesting when you come around a corner and there's a little Baja bug in front of you. :)
gr8whytyj 06-07-2010, 12:54 PM I'll be there for sure. I'm looking forward to the after party.
Rob Ruggerio is riding shot gun with Erik. Sebastian Martell (pirate4x4) is driving in the 6cyl class with Erik's sister Kara:D
DOUG38S 06-07-2010, 02:27 PM I looked all over their site and cant find what the entry fee is? What am I missing.
gr8whytyj 06-07-2010, 03:27 PM Lou knows, I think it's like $60 plus a $10 membership fee.
vetteboy79 06-07-2010, 06:16 PM Just FYI - I will most likely be bringing my full-size BBQ grill on the trailer again, so if anyone wants to bring stuff to grill, you're more than welcome to use it. There's also a food stand at the race track.
DozerDan 06-07-2010, 06:23 PM Anyone who can get there early do so, the area fills up quickly.
Def bring lots of adult beverages and be prepared for a good time.
vetteboy79 06-09-2010, 07:42 AM It's raining in Dornsife now, and will likely be raining in Dornsife this weekend.
Gonna be real dirty. :)
rockcity 06-09-2010, 07:57 AM you guys have fun. I'm jealous I won't make it up there.
Pullin for Dave in 4cyl class :)
vetteboy79 06-09-2010, 08:23 AM Quick note for guys who haven't been there before - if you're camping or planning on sleeping in your truck/trailer, bring a shovel to level it. A lot of the camping area is on the side of a hill.
RokYota 06-09-2010, 08:48 AM It's raining in Dornsife now, and will likely be raining in Dornsife this weekend.
Gonna be real dirty. :)
Great:shaking:..............Line Mountain needs no help being a wet sloppy mess.........which reminds me, I need to head to Tractor Supply tonight and pick up a gallon WD-40
SlowmoSU 06-09-2010, 09:11 AM I'm planning on being there.
All of us V8 guys need to pick one class and all enter that class so we are competing against each other.
V8 Class or (Long Wheel Base) LWB Class.
I'm fairly certain most of us fit in the LWB class cause its 102" and more qualifies.
If we ran LWB class, then even the guys running 4 and 6 cylinders could run in the same class as us, If they dared.... :flipoff2:
Either way... lets pick a class V8 or LWB before we get up there so that we can all register in the same class.
DOUG38S 06-09-2010, 10:02 AM Anyone got any extra tear offs? I'm pretty sure I'm out and forgot to order some the other day.
balduccibrosracing 06-09-2010, 10:06 AM It's raining in Dornsife now, and will likely be raining in Dornsife this weekend.
Gonna be real dirty. :)
its raining here too...25 miles away from the race, forecast says 80*/partly cloudy for tomorrow and friday, and scattered thunderstorms on saturday
Whaley Enterprises 06-09-2010, 12:30 PM Anyone got any extra tear offs? I'm pretty sure I'm out and forgot to order some the other day.
if you are going up on friday there is a cycle shop on 225 just over the mountain on the way before you get to halifax called amped powersports if you dont have time to stop anyplace else
jhea51 06-10-2010, 04:25 AM If possible, you guys might want to avoid coming up 225. There's roadwork on a bridge and the detour is a bit longer. The bridge at the end of the road is getting prepped to be worked on as well, but hopefully they hold off until Monday for that.
If you're coming up from Harrisburg, you'd probably be better off coming up 81 and getting off the Lavelle exit, then turning left at the Turkey Hill (I think that's the gas station) toward Gowen City. You stay on this road for maybe 10 miles, then turn down to the lower road at Sand's Body Shop.
I'll see if I can post a map with the downed bridges marked after work.
92redyj 06-10-2010, 05:15 AM That'd be awesome. I've never been before and will be hauling a 24' trailer with a 38' motorhome.
umbrobryan 06-10-2010, 08:53 AM Hello guys. In the last couple months I have become active in the TREC series down at the badlands. Im currently running a 95 ZJ with 3" lift and 31" tires. Im trying to get a feel for how extreme the coming races will be and if I would have a chance at being competative. Ive been looking at the line mountian website and either im not seeing the info im looking for or its not there. The ultimate question would be...would the rig im running make it through whats down there. Keep in mind this is a $500 rig so trail damage does not bother me. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you much Bryan
jhea51 06-10-2010, 12:56 PM If you copy and paste the following coordinates ( 40.717454,-76.79135 ) into Google maps it will show you exactly where the bridge is that is definitely closed.
There are a lot of small roads around there that will work as detours, but if you're pulling a trailer, your best bets are either the marked detour or:
225 to SR 3010
3010 for about 2.6 miles to Cherry Town Road
Cherry Town Road for about 3.3 miles back to 225
The bridge at the end of the road was still open today when I came home. If they would close it tomorrow, you'll want creek road if coming from the south (pretty smooth and flat for trailers), or SR 2044 if coming from Trevorton (you'll need to look at the maps to decide how you want to get from 2044 down to 3004. Some of the lanes coming down are a little steep and turny, but you should be alright with a trailer if you take it easy). I'll post tomorrow around 4-5 o'clock whether or not that one was open.
Feel free to ask any questions that you may have about detours and I'll try to get back to you asap.
jhea51 06-10-2010, 01:09 PM umbrobryan, one of the greatest things about the LM races is the fact that you don't need a top dollar machine to race. People have already entered street vehicles with a little bit of lift and finished. I wouldn't recommend it because they spent a lot of time pulling over to let others pass, and no matter how hard you try, there will likely be some sort of damage.
You could probably finish with your machine, which can often land you in the money for your class. My advice would be to prepare for water and rocks, and not shoot for a win your first time, just keep a reasonable pace and try to finish.
jhea51 06-11-2010, 01:06 PM The bridge at the end of the lower road is open, so its just the one that I gave the coordinates for.
vetteboy79 06-11-2010, 01:10 PM Leaving shortly...should be out there 7:30ish. :D
jhea51, thanks for the updates, lookin forward to racing with you guys again.
heavychevyII 06-12-2010, 02:32 AM Good luck guys. Give em hell!
balduccibrosracing 06-12-2010, 02:27 PM Looks like about half of the rock crawler crowd finished, and erik miller won overall
zachv 06-12-2010, 07:32 PM Who has the results? Looked like a bunch of fun. I may try it next year.
Congrats, Erik!!
wngrog 06-12-2010, 07:34 PM erik miller won overall

balduccibrosracing 06-12-2010, 07:46 PM Who has the results? Looked like a bunch of fun. I may try it next year.
Congrats, Erik!!
The results were posted here, I'm not sure when they'll have the results online.
Your boy kurt finished too zach, only issue he noticed right away was a busted center pin on a front leaf.
This race was flat out brutal, makes rock racing look easy. It was very well run too, we can't wait for the next one!
dan58 06-12-2010, 07:46 PM Looks like about half of the rock crawler crowd finished, and erik miller won overall
:grinpimp:
No kidding. Brother can drive. :smokin:
wngrog 06-12-2010, 07:58 PM From what I gathered, Erik was not driving his KOH buggy. Is that right?
dan58 06-12-2010, 07:59 PM From what I gathered, Erik was not driving his KOH buggy. Is that right?
I don't believe. I think he was planning to run the YJK.
balduccibrosracing 06-12-2010, 08:24 PM Yj wasn't race ready so he did run the koh buggy, he passed us on course once and he was really quick.
chris demartini 06-12-2010, 09:16 PM Just spoke to Erik on face book. He took the twisted buggy and smoked everyone - 1st overall!
Jake had the fastest rock buggy in the 6 cyl class, came in 7th.
A.J was apparently fast but had electrical problems which put him in the back on the last lap, but still finished
Anthony Russo got 10th in 6 cyl class.
Vetteboy DNFed and looked like he drove an entire lap on just the rim.
Rob and Tim ran Rob's old swampers and cut 2, DNF'ed, bummer.
That's all I know right now.
2D EDGE 06-13-2010, 06:23 AM Way to go Erik!!!!
RokYota 06-13-2010, 09:54 AM Dan and I ran the long wheel base class so we could race with most of the others rock guys. Lap 1 we ran a 21:32, 22:58 lap 2, 3rd was 30:22, 4th was 33:20. The rad got packed full of mud on teh 3rd lap and she was running a tad on the warm side. Dan and I took turns peeing on the rad to try and clean it out a bit:laughing:. But it was so clogged it only helped a little. We crossed the finish line at 280*..........I have pics of the split times of the LWB class, I'll post them when I get home..........
gr8whytyj 06-13-2010, 11:57 AM Brutal race, more tuning with my shocks I will put down faster lap times. I am very proud of my team's finish. Beating the other 6 cyl rock trucks and the $60 prize money was worth the effort.
Xjcrawler736 06-13-2010, 12:56 PM Anyone know where Lou and Doug finished? Can't wait to see the results.
Congrats to everyone that finished.
RokYota 06-13-2010, 01:13 PM Here are the LWB results..........Lou actually finished 5th, not 12th. There was a lap he didn't get scanned...
92redyj 06-13-2010, 02:22 PM We had a collision towards the end of the 1st lap, someone smashed my front end, 100 yards later the drivers front wheel broke. Everything was going awesome until then, just using this as a test and tune for my new shocks and cooling system. Didn't have a spare on the rig so we just took the DNF.
RokYota 06-13-2010, 02:44 PM Anthony Russo got 10th in 6 cyl class.
I didn't run with the 6's...........Dan and I ran long wheel base:D
olchev4x4 06-13-2010, 02:55 PM I finished 8th according to the board.
9th after they fixed the mix up.
Im in the Blue 69 Blazer.
vetteboy79 06-13-2010, 03:10 PM Vetteboy DNFed and looked like he drove an entire lap on just the rim.

Wasn't the most comfortable ride, didn't steer too well either.
Bent my regular wheel & blew the bead off, swapped the spare on, worked well for a while but the patch I had on the inside eventually gave way and made that one flat too. After I got out and looked at it, the tire & wheel were already fuct so I said screw it and drove on it anyway for the rest of the lap. I was still passing people with the flat on there and did the last 1/2-mile or so with no tire at all.
Only other issue I had was the fuel tank hold-downs loosening up, causing the feed out of the fuel pump to kink and get a pinhole leak. That cost me nearly an hour, and combined with the first tire change and driving on the flat put me at about a 1:50:00 first lap. If I had another tire the truck was good to keep racing but that left me only an hour and change to finish 3 more laps...which would have been possible but not likely the way the day was going (and I didn't have another tire anyway). Also the sector shaft seal on the steering box crapped out today after driving it around a bit more so a steering box rebuild is next on the list before it'll move again.
I completed the one lap though which got me points on the board and a place in the overall standings (I had the second-slowest first lap time  ).
When the truck was actually running, it felt great and I passed quite a few people. I was very happy with the rear coilovers and the steering is quick enough to keep up with as fast as the truck will go. The fuel tank issue was totally a stupid prep error on my part and it's something to address for the next time.
Coal Bucket race is a month from now and I plan on making it to that one.
jeepbeater 06-13-2010, 03:16 PM Nice work Erik. Looks like a ton of fun.
BrassMunkey4 06-13-2010, 03:40 PM Just finishing in the Breadtruck was a big win for us. No issues for us at all, didnt have to get out of the jeep once. And it gave us some ammo for the shit talking at the camp fire (aka the light on Lou's trailer) :flipoff2:
Big thanks to the Balducci bros for helping us finish the jeep and run around and shake the bugs out.
Coal bucket here we come.

92redyj 06-13-2010, 06:18 PM This was our show stopper, we'll be back in July hopefully with a spare tire attached to the rig
broncolou 06-13-2010, 06:30 PM I actually finished 5th right after Bigelo. i was told 11th overall after correction. they missed my last lap and had me as a DNF:mad3: It was nice, not getting out of the truck for the entire race:D
DOUG38S 06-14-2010, 07:53 AM Great atmosphere and great racing. Starting at the back of the pack sucked. Lap one we had some motor issues. Popped it in low range and bounced off the rev limiter which was fun for the rest of the race. Lots of detours by the end. Some were fun, some took forever. Even with that being said it was very fun and the Line Mt folks were awesome. We'll be back for sure, A) with a bigger bumper, B) with a larger beer cooler.
Bomber52 06-14-2010, 03:47 PM Well done Erik, you guys are doing a great job.

Yeh this was the first race I have been apart of where I didnt have to get out and fix something major. And it worked out well that the rad was clogged bc I REALLY had to pee when we stopped.

Thanks Glenn! We appreciate all of the support you have provided this year. The terrain at Line Mountain was brutal, yet our suspension never missed a beat.:grinpimp:

Doesnt make sense to me.
DOUG38S 06-16-2010, 03:35 PM Erik, what was your top speed per the GPS?
there wasnt much area to get up to any speed. My top speed was 42mph and can only imagine it was off the starting line down the drag strip.
ne14jpn 06-16-2010, 03:49 PM there wasnt much area to get up to any speed. My top speed was 42mph and can only imagine it was off the starting line down the drag strip.
I stayed in low range all day. We tried high but it was just too much when you would get stuck behind someone in my car. I think Rob said we hit 43mph? Nothing crazy. Course was super tight.
