Those LE Raptors are SHWEEEEEET looking bikes. I wish I could have got one. The wife said you(I) already had a Raptor, you don't need two of them:D :D .Owell,I'm tickled with mine.Very fast and I love that big 4 stroke torque. I just can't stay off of it long enough to finish working on my Toyota:rolleyes:

What are a couple little things you can do to it, to make them a little faster? I was out at Shiloh Ridge, all day sat. and I got beat by a 400ex.. I got off the line one time and barley beat him, but every other time he kicked my ass. I finally asked him what he did to it, and found out why he was whooping me. He had a hi compression piston, and a cam, along with exhaust, and new filter. Mine is still under waranty, so I am not going in to the motor yet, but what are some other things I can do?

Did he beat you by a little or alot? Something my uncle told me along time ago is "it's hard to beat cubic inches". Yes a 400ex is a very fast bike and with the right set up and rider can beat a Raptor. As far as engine mods all i've done is a pipe.Alot of guy's that I have heard of that put alot of added power to the Raptor have trouble with the gears in the tranny breaking. Are you into drag racing or just trail riding and playing around? I personally don't care for drag racing. A few guy's I ride with own Banshee's fully built to the hilt for drag racing. If I drag them they will alway's beat me by a bike lenght or two,OWWWWEEELLL.The funny thing is my bike is basically stock w/a pipe, they got gobb's of cash in their bike to get me by a bike lenght  . But on the other hand if we go for a trail ride, say 50 to 80 miles, they are wore out after about 10 miles:rolleyes:. I don't care if I get beat by a Blaster, all I care about is that my bike does what I want it to. Coming from a desert racing family I love endurance riding. Most guy's around here want to drag race:rainbow: I say set up a coarse 80 miles long and then let's race. I'm sorry I kinda got away from your ? You could go with a pipe, air box mods and filter but it's kinda limited to that without voiding your warrenty. I personally wouldn't tear into the motor unless something is broke. Have you been tobluetraxx (http://www.bluetraxx.com/index.htm) ? It's a pretty good web site and BB. I go over there a little bit. Might get some different idea's/opinion's.:beer:congrats  on the new Raptor, have fun with it and don't worry if one guy beats you. There will always be someone with a faster bike or a deeper wallet:D

Truthfuly he only beat me by 1 ot 2 links, not to bad.. He said his was set up for a flat track, and he raced all the time, so I really dont feel that bad about it. I blew out the factory reat tire with in 2hrs and put hole shots on it, and I actually had a little faster top end than the other stock raptors. The hole shot is a little taller.. I am thinking about going back to the dealer, and seeing if they will install a hi compression pistion, and keep it under waranty. I like to just ride, but If I do drag, I want to win.. :D I also have a 87 Red and Black warrior. I have put a DG header, and pipe on it, with new jets, and filter. It has hole shots, and ITP alum. wheels. Looks sweet, but slow comparied to the raptor.. I was looking in to the new FMF Q pipe. I dont want my new raptor to be loud... My warrior is screaming loud going down the road. Let me know if you can find some thing out, or have any input. Later ;)

FMF makes a real good pipe and silencer. I've used FMF on all my other bikes(86 250R,88 250R,89 LT500) and they worked great. I got a Pro Circuit pipe and silencer for my Raptor for 3 reasons. 1: At the time money was tight, my stock header was bent from a buddy crashing my bike. The P.C. header and pipe combo was a little cheaper $$$ wise. 2: I liked the look of their's a little better than the FMF. 3: I wanted to try something different. I would suggest a pipe and silencer, good filter kit and re-jetting it for the two mods. Letting the motor breathe better in and out will make a huge difference. That would be cool if Yamaha would install a high comp. piston under warrenty, might be a touchy subject though. I've never heard of someone asking for that or getting that done under warrenty. Good luck to ya:D

Go with the Yoshi pipe! Replace the air filter and mounting hardware. Mod the air box and rejet.

Mine will finally beat my 400ex now. It would'nt before.

i agree with everyone here. let it breath. i mean that is a 660cc motor. it's probabley the size of a 454 chevy piston. letting that thing have good lungs is the best thing for it. exhaust and air boxes play a big factor in sound level. i think that is why stock bikes(and quads) have chocked up muffs and filts.

as far as drag racing. there can be tons of factors effecting your speed. when drag racing a lot of the race is over after the launch. if you want to drag race you need to set up for it and practice starts. so for the drag racing i would say to drop the rear sprocket two teeth to start(gearing is important when draging) and practice to shift fast and at the right moment and don't have your rear suspention too stiff.

just knowing your ride is a big advantage when racing someone. i remember whooping on two xr 600's with my xr 250 cause they couldn't get thier bikes moving. any way i'll stop now.

if you want a little more power get a pipe and air intake system of some sort. if you want crazy power then forget about that warenty and get the head ported and buy a cam and piston and carb package.

try trinity they've been showing up with some fast raptors latley. they had one that could accualy stay in my roost for a while.:D

I am looking at the FMF Q pipe, I want a quiet ride, my warrior has a DG pipe, and header, it is way too loud.

I can beat most 400ex's just that one had some shit done to it. I was kicking Yamaha Bans., Blasters, warriors, and other raptors, dont get me wrong its really fasy, I just want some crazy SPEED!!

here for Raptor pipe shoootout (http://www.dirtwheelsmag.com/detail.asp?id=143)

This might help!

I just got a brand new 02. So far I have the Yosi pipe and header. Pro flowfilter and mounting. Modded the air box and jetted it.

Been working more on the suspention than the motor. I figured I'll get it handeling better then work on speed. But I had to get it faster than my 400. At least in a straight line. I don't want my girl friend whooping me.
