Someone offered me a 1976 chevy K10 for free. It has the np203 chain drive t-case, and I believe the chain is slipping from what the they said. The truck doesn't run right now, but I am wondering if it can still be driven if the chain is lose, or if it is slipping will the back wheels not turn either?

You can run in 2wd with a messed up chain, just not 4wd.

Uh, no 2wd on an NP203 if it hasn't been molested with the mile marker kit thingy. If the chain is bad enough the truck won't move in any gear, it's not like a part time chain case where the chain just drives the front axle, if the chain is bad enough the limited slip diff in the case won't send power to any axle, but HI LOC is your best bet, you'll probably get a bunch of looks as you go bang-banging down the street. I'm sure you can find an NP203 pretty cheap, most people can't give them away.

Sorry, my mistake. I keep forgetting that my 203 was "fixed up" with a part time kit.
I retract my previous statement.

So is the mile marker part time conversion a bad idea? Would it be better to get another np203 and just leave it stock, or is there a different t-case that would be easy to swap in?
I guess I will just have to get the truck running and drive it around to see how bad it is. The price is right, but it has over 450k miles, so it may be so worn out that it isn't even worth it. But, I will have to wait until I drive it to decide:D
