: Whats wrong with this rig?
ChiScouter 05-20-2010, 09:38 PM Ive been drooling over this rig since I first saw the for sale ad. From the pictures it looks like the fabrication is top notch and has all the technical details to make it a competent runner. For a dedicated trail rig the only weakness I see is a lack of protection from mud, water and snow due to no inner fenders. I would also want to get rid of the rear spool. It looks like a screaming deal to me at what he is currently asking and I didn't even think his original asking price was unreasonable considering the level of craftsmanship it looks to have. I have sent the seller a couple of pm's asking more details and he has been very forthcoming. If I was looking for a trailer queen I would have made an offer on it many months ago, I just don't get why there hasn't been more interest in it.
Im not looking to criticize the owner or his rig, Im trying to understand why no one else has thought enough about the rig to buy it:confused:

IDScout 05-20-2010, 10:10 PM The 16K asking price made me want to hit the back button without scrolling down.
At current asking price, I would consider it.
He needs to change his first post to reflect the current price he wants.

Scout Broker 05-20-2010, 11:03 PM There is nothing wrong with it. Luke is a stand up guy and the best fabricator I have ever met. I have seen this rig in person and it is very nicely done. You buy it Chi and I can deliver as far as Denver Co. in mid June. :D
chris fresh 05-21-2010, 05:10 AM it is a very nice set up, i would go 16 for it
Mechanos 05-21-2010, 06:02 AM Buy it Helmer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then pick me up on the way back and we'll swing down to Flat Nasty and scratch that bitch!

It looks like a TV pilot I just finished working on didn't get picked up to go to series:(. If it had I would be looking for someone to throw a 60/arb in the back and hold it till the Naches run
Trust me ive been doing EVERYTHING in my power to get anyone I know to pick this thing up. $6500 is a smoking deal for something you could buy load up and wheel for years exactlly the way it is. The fab work is top notch along with the attention to detail. Someone please buy this thing so I can stop obsessing over it!
misterfubar 05-21-2010, 06:54 AM must... resist... getting... out.. check.. book.
I can't believe the asking price on that, if I had time for the hobby and it had a back seat I'd be all over that.
Binder 05-21-2010, 07:06 AM It's a nice rig Helmer, you should buy it.:smokin:
uglyscout 05-21-2010, 07:24 AM x10 I've seen this truck in person/wheeled with him. It is top quality stuff....
He used to have a 4x4 shop just down the street. He has since moved to full custom race truck fab and prerunner fab at a secert location....
If I didn't have a pre-purchased pile of parts in my garage - I'd be all over this myself.
Diesel Smoke 05-21-2010, 07:41 AM If I had 6500, it'd be in my (Dad's) yard. I wouldn't think twice about it.
guidolyons 05-21-2010, 09:20 AM Nice Scout.
$16,500 was too high, but damn...$6500...now that's a screamin' deal.
crashhawk 05-21-2010, 09:28 AM $16,500 was too high, but damn...$6500...now that's a screamin' deal.
werd.
I gotta say the same as everyone else, if'n I had $6500 laying around, it'd be taking up space in my yard 'till I get time to wheel it!
RustoleumWhite 05-21-2010, 09:38 AM Nicely built rig, and yes I've seen it in person.
I'd do some things different, and put some heavier axles under it, atleas the rear, and link it, but the body is similar to how I had plans at one time, just never the time.
$6500 is a steal, and if I didn't have a pile of tube in the garage I might just have picked it up myself...
heck if I had a little spare money right now I WOULD pick it up to have a running wheeler again.
Scout Broker 05-21-2010, 10:28 AM I WOULD pick it up to have a running wheeler again.

Buy it and sell the pile of tube.
Shadow man 05-21-2010, 11:32 AM Chi, Don't let the lack of inner fenders scare you away. The lack of them have never been a problem for me.
Other than the exhaust, which will get fubared on the rocks that I wheel against, It is pretty damn cool to me.

uglyscout 05-21-2010, 11:34 AM If anyone buys it I will go pick it up and store it at my secure location until you can come get it. ............ Seriously. I won't even wheel it. :D
Mechanos 05-21-2010, 12:26 PM Buy it Helmer!!!!! Somebody offered to haul it as far as Denver. I'd meet him there and haul it to KC and store it in the barn until you're ready to come get it!
MochaMike 05-21-2010, 01:46 PM $6500 is a fair price... (however I'd recommend upgrading the rear output on the D300).
If it had an Atlas, coils & D60s, the $16k would be a good starting point.
SSGTWC 05-21-2010, 06:28 PM Buy it Helmer!!!!! Somebody offered to haul it as far as Denver. I'd meet him there and haul it to KC and store it in the barn until you're ready to come get it!
C'mon Helmer! How long has it been since you had a runnin rig? Too long! Do it Man! If Todd hauls out to Denver to get it, I can go with him to make sure he doesn't get lost in the Denver metro area. :flipoff2:
ChiScouter 05-21-2010, 07:27 PM What a fawking thread backfire, me and my big fawking mouth:shaking: Life has been more a famine than a feast for some time. You guys did get to me, and if I was sure I had a feast laid out in front of me for the next 6 months or so I would be pm'ing some of you guys to work out a storage solution. For the owners sake I hope he moves it soon, but if its around a month from now and the green stuff is flowing I may not have a reasonable excuse to let it go.
American 05-21-2010, 09:15 PM ... just don't eat dude. I mean, come on.
JetFxr 05-21-2010, 09:26 PM Hey Scout Broker see if the rig is still around, I think links and tons with 203/205 and it would be bad ass. I don't have enough:eek: If he still has it and you can stash it for me, maybe I got to have it. And can anyone tell me what springs I need to fit 33s on a Scout?

Mechanos 05-24-2010, 07:48 AM Very clever ploy, Chi. You find a rig that you really want, but know deep down you really shouldn't buy it at the moment. So, you increase its exposure to the target market of buyers by posting here. Someone else quickly buys it up and thereby removes the tempation. Crazy......... like a fox!

That is pretty mcuh how it happened. The seller got a huge bump in interest and was actually inquiring with a friend of mine "How do I post pictures on Pirate... I've had a ton of interest in the last couple days....
" But before he could post new photos it sold.
Chi should get a finders fee :laughing:

I think I heard about that. Was that the time he came out of the Crushers at about 30mph? In 2wd? With parts flying everyplace? :D
Diesel Smoke 06-22-2010, 02:53 AM I though lukas already had Dutchman shafts in that thing? It's no 9" with 40 spline, but he did drive it out of the bottom of the crushers with only 2wd.

It doesn't flex worth a DAMN (rear springs too stiff, shackle angle off and shackles too short), the tire sidewalls need to be broken in (read broken down) and it is to light in the rear end.
O-ya and the fan [doesn't] suck :flipoff2:
Its got potential, and I know Mike will get it worked out. Thats what "shake-down runs" are all about. Cage does its job however and skid-plate looks nice, as does the *bling* SS exhaust :D

Scout Broker 09-21-2010, 08:27 PM So besides flopping at Naches, how did the rig do?
Pretty much like Rusty said. It's way light in the rear and now that the 345 is gone from the front. It's now light all over. Never though I would think that about a Scout. :grinpimp:
I need to lower it a bit and put a storage box in the back of it. I'm hoping the box will add just enough weight to help with traction. I could also run my steel beadlocks but I want to be careful about putting weight back on.
All in all it was a pretty good shakedown run. Considering we did a full powertrain swap in less then 3 weeks. With loading it on the trailer being the first test drive. :homer:
The 4.3 makes great power and ran well. The cable shifters were great. And the modified gate in the B&M shifter was a dream to use. :smokin:
I'm closing in on it. Next trip out may have it wheeling to it's full potential.
