i went to full hydro a while back and it is becoming more evident that the stock pump just cant keep up (or something else is wrong). At low speeds it is fine, but once i get above idle (2nd or 3rd gear) i have to slow down to let my steering catch up. it is kind of annoying. anything i can do to upgrade besides replace it or is that my best bet?

Did you drill the restrictor plate?

Search! :flipoff2:
I haven't done this mod myself, but I think you pull the pressure line, and there is a fitting between the line and the pump--pull it, pull the spring out of it, and drill....it's a very odd size drill bit. Put it all back together. There are several threads in the regular Toy pickup forum that have mentioned it.

Are you considering doing this to the TC pump? Mine still doesn't like the stickies.

Pull the pressure line off at the pump. The plate is easily accessable. Drill it out and put it back in. Made a huge difference on the stock toy pump. I didn't mod the spring at all, just the plate.

think this would be enough for hydro assist 2" bore and 42" tires?

2" bore on hydro assist is borderline at being limited by the box...

sorry if im jacking the thread but would a 1.5 bore be better for my application? i know the best thing would be full hydro but thats not a good idea IMO for toyota gear.

No...still have a stock Toy pump on the FToy, and need to do the TC pump mod. Have the TC in the Runner and love it.

Good to know--would a Saginaw box flow better than the Toy box?

Yes.
We're running a saginaw p-pump with a 5" pulley to a IFS toy box, and 2" assist. Unless it hits below idle, its seamless feeling. Had to be at 1500 rpm with the 5.75" pulley for that feeling before.

Sorry, Brian, I was referring to Wilson's comments about the Toy box. Would a Saginaw box flow fluid from a Sag pump better to a 2" ram?
I'm absolutely sold on Saginaw pumps.
I have the TC in my 4Runner..I have a remote reservoir P pump from a Caravan I'm thinking about for the buggy.
