: What kind of Jeep do you wheel?
Jayrockn7 10-18-2002, 03:18 PM I've seen a lot of XJ names on here lately and was wondering if the grocery getters were becoming more popular in the hardcore seen then any of the other Jeeps, so what you got and why did you choose to wheel it? - I got the classic 7, but I do have an XJ for the DD.
wanderingwillys 10-18-2002, 03:36 PM When I started building it the XJ was the only vehicle I had, rather than getting a basket case project vehicle I started on the DD

JS-Economos 10-18-2002, 03:50 PM Got my '89 XJ Pioneer in the Winter of '99 when I was 17. Wheeled the shit out of it stock for a year until I had enough saved up for a 3" and some 31s. I'm at 5" up front and 6" rear now with 33s. Its my DD and I'm a broke college kid, so...:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Got an XJ started building that 'cause my @ss is po' and I can't afford two sets of wheels.
Nah, the real reason is that I think frames are for gurls. :flipoff2:
firegod33 10-18-2002, 05:42 PM I started building my last XJ cause it was the only running vehicle I had. After embarasing a couple of TJ's on the trail. I decided to start another. Hence the '94 that I have, now.
Po' riggity 10-18-2002, 06:02 PM I drive a yj with just over 200,000 miles on it, mostly because I needed a 4wd vehicle that I could drive in the winter during the snow. And it just got out of hand after a while :D
Scott
EasyXJ 10-18-2002, 06:27 PM I still call it an XJ, others don't:rolleyes: Ya gotta have enough room to bring the family with ya:D
Easy
Keith Strong 10-18-2002, 06:55 PM You didnt really put my YJ in with LIBERTIES??? :shaking:
magoo117 10-18-2002, 08:09 PM I have an 88 XJ daily driver with rear locker,5" lift & 33 TSL's and I am building a rock XJ with Rockwell's and 44's.I need the room for my wife and daughter on the trails so the XJ works best.
Cheepin 10-18-2002, 08:16 PM Can't say I wheel a Jeep yet.Still in building mode.Hopefully it will be ready for Thanksgiving and will test it in Moab. Can't wheel anything right now.My truck is still 2wd and the wifes Sub has a rod knock.Too many projects at once.:( Oh well the list is finish the Jeep, Rebuild wifes engine then slap a front axle in the truck.Blazin
muddyasskaiser 10-18-2002, 08:54 PM I drive a 68' M-715. Guess that counts as a FSJ huh.
Weasel 10-18-2002, 09:03 PM XJ stock for now but soon to be modded. It's called lack of $$$ so :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Kensoffroad 10-18-2002, 09:58 PM lets see I have a 99 XJ on 37s a 00 TJ on 35s a 86 MJ on 31s a 69 FSJ on 30s and a flatty in the black berry bushes where do i fit in?

BrettM 10-18-2002, 11:51 PM You didn't include MJs?? :( (though I used to have an XJ)
The best of an XJ (coil front, leaf rear, cheap, enclosed) but better (SUA rear makes for cheap lift, a real frame in back, no driveline angle problems)

JeepTJ1062 10-19-2002, 08:52 AM You didn't make it where we could vote twice. I have a 97 TJ and a 79 CJ5. I wheel which ever is running when I wanna go somewhere. I'll be sellin the CJ once its back together and work on getting the TJ up to par.
kling-on 10-19-2002, 09:13 AM i got a 77 cj7 also had a 99 tj but that payment took to much of my fun money:flipoff2: round head lights all the way:D

Steve N 10-19-2002, 11:09 AM I wheel one with round tires usually.
boz88xj 10-19-2002, 11:12 AM 88XJ.
A lot of the print mags are startng to put more info out on the XJ/MJ. The cj/tj/yj definitely is still the mos tpopular, but XJ's arent only DD's these days.
The last 2 JP mags had great articles on building up XJ's, and a featured MJ (which has already been talked about here).
It's great for us XJ owners, cause now we can get some useful tech from the printmags.

no such thing:flipoff2:
Oh yeah, I drive a XJ.
Jayrockn7 10-19-2002, 09:55 PM Sorry guys the BBS only lists 6 max, so that's why I put the "other" in there, it's not just for the TJ, YJ, Libby. Well I got a 7 because at the time TJ's weren't cheap, I think a stock YJ is junk, and my friends had CJ-7's so we all carried the same spare parts. I like the room of the XJ/ZJ's put I cann't see out of them for shit! that and they DON'T have a frame makes me not want to push my XJ hard. I've seen the guys that go hardcore with them, they cann't open the doors:eek: NO SORRY, I got an open top rig already I don't need to chop my Cherokee.
JS-Economos 10-19-2002, 10:11 PM Who needs doors anyways? :flipoff2:
WillisXJ 10-19-2002, 11:36 PM I wheel an XJ....... but my other ride is your daughter! :flipoff2:

Yeah, you're right... $4,000 For a stock Jeep in good condition with a nice torquey fuel injected engine, a couple hundred bucks for some 4" leafs and some shocks, $800 for some cheap 8" rims and some 33" tires, another couple hundred to throw a Lock-Rite in the rear and you're good to go. I ran like that for several years before I really started going to town on the mods, and it took me everywhere a similarly built CJ could go, and then some, cause I wasn't stalling every time I tried to climb a hill.
Oh yeah - what's the deal with lumping my YJ with a Liberty. Maybe you should have had another category - Unimogs and Honda CRV :flipoff2:
nobody20 10-20-2002, 06:38 AM I've been wheeling the same 79 CJ-5 since 79. Before that an MB, CJ-2, CJ-3B, and 55 CJ-5. I have never been anything but wheelbase challenged. What's with lumping me in with those 6, 7 & 8's that can easily make all those vertical obstacles? :D
Seroiusly, the wheelbase challenge is starting to be a REAL challenge as everyone opening up new trails seem to find new trails that favor a longer wheelbase. Certainly all the rockcrawling comps seem to favor something with around 104-108".
I think it is time 5 owners banded together and opened up some new extreme trails that favor the shorter wheelbase.
Oh, I did wheel my 88 F-350 4x4 a little bit. It was pretty darn good.
Scott Mac. 10-20-2002, 08:18 AM XJ, Plenty of room, if it's dusty or muddy I can roll the windows up. the coil/leaf combo is hard to beat.
The only downfall is the frame, but the rig more than makes up for it. If I tweek it too bad there are plenty of others going cheap.
coiledcj7 10-20-2002, 09:39 AM round headlights are the way.
I wheel the classsic 7, but none of the chrome crap , just all black.
redwilly 10-20-2002, 09:51 AM I got's me a big shiney red 'un.

CheapXJ 10-20-2002, 04:25 PM I wheel my 89XJ, speed bumps, curbs, and even the front end of a mitsubishi eclipse (wish i got pics :()
It goes farther than most other vehicles around here. even with open diffs, sagged suspension and shitty tires. but not for long. . .
tuckster 10-21-2002, 03:57 PM I'm rockin' an FSJ... but almost everyday I think about switching to a Commando.... something a little more streamlined if you know what I mean, but for now, I love my waggy.
I thought about the CJ thing once, glad I didn't do it :flipoff2:
ashmanjeepXJ 10-21-2002, 04:31 PM 88xJ 2dr
With the 2dr Im gonna fit my 37s with only 4.5in lift and LOADS of trimming, but no rear door clearance issues...
Will be low to the ground, comfie, and unique
D70 D60 and stuff....:rolleyes::D
Josh 89XJ 10-21-2002, 04:47 PM I started building my XJ because it was cheap, different, had plenty of room, and was more DD friendly as it was my only vehicle. I have since moved it to only trail duty and have a cheapy Honda for DD duties. When I got the XJ a few years ago, there was almost nobody building them and mine was one of the few around town that wasn't stock. Granted, it only had 31"s and a few inches of lift, but anyway...
It now seems that everybody and their brother is building an XJ which is pretty cool I guess, but it was fun being different. I'd like to get a YJ or CJ, but money is tight and the XJ has been damned good to me.
CannonBall 10-21-2002, 06:28 PM dude you put TJ, YJ, liberty? What the hell, who cares about crappy 7's and 5's, the TJ will stomp one of those POS stock to stock. I drive a ZJ, I'm not on the list, WTF, even know what a ZJ is?
-Nate
webjeep 10-21-2002, 06:37 PM 78 cj-5, that is currently my dd while i gather the parts and save for the xj which will be the next victim and the dd while i build the 5,

I'm fond of my visibility. That door thing pissed me off too.

The KJ was mentioned and not the ZJ--blasphemy.
