: Smooth belly pans to rock slider
Eagle-Mark 05-26-2010, 06:32 PM I'm sure this has been done before but I want to be spoon fed pictures and ideas on how to keep the center of my Scout II smooth all the way across. From rock slider to rock slider just one big smooth skid plate! Any ideas, dos or don'ts are welcome. There's going to have to be several peices as I'm sure I'll need to remove one or two to service trans and transfer etc...
Anyone got good ideas?
levi1a 05-26-2010, 08:31 PM Not from slider to slider , but a good start.

Eagle-Mark 05-26-2010, 11:26 PM The hinges are great! :D
Bolts would have been nicer counter sunk. Saw them countersunk on a jeep pan once and they seemed to not get all gouged up from rocks and could still remove them.
What thickness did you use there?
It's 3/16 so its a bit heavy. Thats why I have the hinges for field repair. Nothing worst then getting a rock in the back bench pressing the belly pan in place.
If I countersunk the bolts the pan would have to be lower by 1/2" plus a ton of extra crap added as I wanted to stiffen the frame up and bolting it tight to the frame does that.
You can weld a large washer around the bolt and feather the edges. I don't hit them that much and vise grips will take most any bolt off in a pinch. If not I can just weld another nut on to whats left and take it out. OBW comes in handy for odd chit like that. I run the Con a few times and Fordyce last year and only one bolt got messed up. I worry more about drivelines then bolt heads:D
Eagle-Mark 05-27-2010, 04:11 PM Well that's good that the only thing I noticed I didn't like isn't an issue.
So if done again what would you do differant or include?

No, it works. If something proves it otherwise, then I will change it.
It's was based on money. i.e the neighbor gave me the steel for free. If I were to "buy" something, maybe get a used piece to stainless and cover that with 1/2 UHMW. You could get some thin stainless. Plus your bolt heads would now be covered. If money was not a big issue, maybe some 3/16 aluminum and covered with UHMW?
But it's not buggy, its a trail Scout I use for camping and wheeling. So the extra weight is just that. Plus it solved the frame flex.
JERM83 05-27-2010, 10:52 PM I love the hinge idea! Hope you don't mind if I steal it. :smokin:

chris fresh 05-28-2010, 07:18 AM x3, my belly is completely flat,i'll be using 3/16 aluminum.not alotta of rock here but the truck will go other places.mostly here it's gonna be stumps, small stone and dead things lying in the woods.
Buck Dodson 05-28-2010, 08:12 AM Do you have hinges on both sides, so you can drop it either way?

They are a loose hinges, as they are made from a 1/2 bolt and some 1/2 black iron pipe. That makes it easy to get the bolt back in. I just wanted a piviot point to rasie or lower it.
I bolted the skid plate up there, then figured I needed something other than the tranny jack to get it back in place.
It was one of those quick booty fab ideas to get your junk ready, and made from what I found laying around.
slipscomb 06-07-2010, 09:49 PM I have had this 1/4" plateunder my Scout since I was on Dana 44's and 33" tires. It has been one of the best upgrades I have ever made on the truck!

I bent tabs up so I could run through bolts horizontally in the frame.
