: 4x4 monster bugs
splinter 10-18-2002, 09:43 PM Starting something BIG here, getting ready to build a monster bug. This bug will be putting out 500 + hp and will sit on 44" tires.
Want be anything like this out there, at least not yet. Anybody got any suggestions or comments?
RHINO 10-18-2002, 09:54 PM you talkin vw bug?? damn i wish i had pics, bout 12 yrs ago i helped build a 4x4 bug with a front mounted 350 SB and 40" tires. it ran around PHX for a few years then it was sold and i dont know what happened to it.
its damn hard to do something "new" these days, but you can sure be unique if you build it.

To each there own...:) I was contemplating doing a real rock buggy... using a discoed fibreglass buggy body that was metalflaked out from the 70's I think it would of been cool...kinding going back to the roots...

Can you say "Fenderwell exit headers"?

HNRYS69 10-20-2002, 01:28 AM There are a couple lame ass bugs sitting on yota frames. The fuggin tires dont even line up with the wheel wells :rainbow: :rainbow:
splinter 10-20-2002, 08:08 AM I have been talking to several people about the possibility of building monster bugs to race, monster truck style, in rodeo sized arenas. I was looking into the new mini monster trucks (Patriot) but one of those things run about 20 grand, to rich for my blood, anyway, I saw a pic of a bug set up like a monster truck and I was hooked.
I believe that you can do all of the things that a monster truck can do in a monster bug. Okay, maybe not everything, but you could put on a hell of a show.
Anybody out there like me? If I can get at least 5 more to build one of these monster bugs, we could do this. I would set up a Monster Bug Racing Association (MBRA) and start booking some shows.
I started a monsterbug group in the Yahoo clubs thing and we will be building a website soon.
Well any takers? -44" tires and V8 power, gotta crush something

I won't admit to this often but....I have considered that a time or two myself. Just thought it always should have been a 4x4. But they command fair money these days and I am sure would not be cheap to build so I never got past the " I bet I could build a cool one" stage.
I admit to basically feeling MOST car bodies on 4x4 frame swaps are as fugly and socialy misfit as it gets. That said the fabricator in me always thought I would like to build one and say "see thats how ya do it" but..I sure dunno why lol

dude...that is so fawken cool. where will you book the shows? i wanna play.
splinter 10-20-2002, 12:27 PM I would do the first show in Arkansas? Why? Because there are three VW clubs here and I want to combine a baja bug show with Monster Bugs. Afterthat, I would probably go to Missouri, Kansas Oklahoma and so forth.
The MBRA will do shows in rodeo arenas, wouldn't make much sense to do the big arenas, at least not at first. There are a lot of rodeo arenas in the Ozarks that can seat 8,000 - 10.000 people. These would make geart venues for Monster Bugs.
So you guys ready to start building some bugs?
splinter 10-20-2002, 09:17 PM This is great, I have two others from this board thinking about building monster bugs. Need more to do this right.
onetoncv 10-20-2002, 09:45 PM here you go-
RawkPunx4x4 10-20-2002, 09:50 PM use one of the newer bugs. very unique
splinter 10-21-2002, 06:36 AM Ya, I think that you could find a new style bug body in a salvage yard that can be used for a monster bug. However, the old style or the baja style can be used also. I guess it would depend on your pocket book.
hardcore4wd.com 10-21-2002, 07:27 AM So everyone else doesn't have to search....

WHERE in MO & AR!!!??? I'd like to do some mud races in these alleged arenas - perhaps in conjunction with a monster bug show, hint hint.

splinter 10-21-2002, 03:23 PM I was wondering that myself. I can't find who owns it or where it's from or where it is now. I saw this pic on another site but they don't know nothing either.
