My buddy has had this fj45 wagon for10 years. I could buy it for $1500.00. It's pretty damn clean and straight. It has a 350 chevy and runs and drives. I havn't seen it in a while but I remeber it being pretty nice. I have several fj 60s and 40s and 80s that I own or work on for customers. My intentions for this fj45 wagon would be to add power steering and probably a 700 r4 and restore the rest of it as needed. Anybody know how rare these 45wagons are? It is different than a troopy right? I have heard that they are very rare. My wife loves the look of this thing so I think I will keep it when it's done.

Any info very appreciated.

I will try to get some pics of it.

Rare. Buy it and restore it. Better yet, give me your buddies number and I'll buy it for $1600 :smokin:

$1700 and I'll be up to Sandpoint tomorrow :D

All joking aside the value really depends on condition like any other vehilce. They are rare, but that often means people don't know what they have and give them away for cheap. On the flip side they do know what they have and want a mint for it.

PS. I wasn't joking about being in Sandpoint tomorrow :D

we've tried to compile a "fj45 registry" over the years and the best guess we could come up with it that there are 300-400 left in the usa. 1500 were imported between 1962 and 1967. so yes, they are very rare. i have owned 7 of them.
they are different than the troopies and any other cruiser from the firewall back; the windshield does not fold down, the body slowly curves until the sides become parallel and was made by gifu which is now yamaha iirc.
look for rust in the rear passenger footwell, that's where it starts. cosmetic parts are tough to find but mechanically they're the same as any other cruiser. ps and an auto swap would definetly make it more enjoyable to drive and it won't take away from the value.
$1500 is a smokin deal if it's complete and fairly clean, you should easily be able to get 3-4 times as much for it the way it sits ( depending on condition of course ).
buy it and post some pics!

Thanks for the info you guys. I am a cruiser fanatic and was pumped when I came across this rig. I can't get it for about a week but I will post some pics as soon as I do. Ps conversion is 1st on my list followed by an overdrive auto.

Spinney,

Its Ryan Scott, not sure if you remember me, but I am from Sandpoint, you would do well picking this up. 45 Wagons are rare and getting even more so. But if you want to sell it the money is going to be taking it back to stock. Or doing a resto mod of some sort.

If I could have found a 45 wagon before I picked up my 55 wagon, I would definitely have picked it up.

Ryan.

Oh and Ben,

Check out www.ih8mud.com they have an entire 45 forum. They can help you find parts, give advice, and if you decide to sell, there will be a lot of serious buyers over there.

Hey Ryan, of course I remember you bro! I did pick it up. It's mine. I have restored several cruisers and many other rare rigs since we last talked. I would flip this one if the $$ is there. I know there are fj45 heads that would kill for this thing. I'm balls deep in so many bad ass projects I'm just tryin to get my priorities in line. I will p.m. you so we can exchange info and chat.

Thanks man, I know you have had some awesome rigs. No build thread, but you can see some pics on the link in my signature. They aren't very recent, but you can see some stuff.

Here are some pics of what needs to be addressed on the body of this rig.

small cancer spot starting inside rear tub.
http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx40/spinneybent/fj453.jpg

just srface rust inside the bed. Not bad at all.
http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx40/spinneybent/fj454.jpg

This is by far the worst damage on the entire rig. I can fix this properly.

http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx40/spinneybent/fj455.jpg

there where lots and lots of wood chips in here from hauling fire wood. You can see the factory paint on the floor towards the front of the cab.

Here is the start of some cancer under the drivers floor mat. Easy fixins.
http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx40/spinneybent/fj457.jpg

This is the 2nd worst damage spot on the whole rig. Rear hatch hinges. This sucks but it is repairable.
http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx40/spinneybent/fj459.jpg

The engine isn't a leaker after all. Just dirty. I cleaned, fueled, and batteried this girl and she fired right up and runs damn good. I never would have guessed.

The d/s fender and grill are off so I can complete the crossover steering. Griil assembly and fender are complete and in good condition.

Let me know what you guys think.

My buddy has had this fj45 wagon for10 years. I could buy it for $1500.00.

You bought it for $1,500, now your selling it for $7K? Wonder if it would help your sale if I crossposted over here:

i think 7k is a little steep, but you're definetly going to make money on the deal.

I don't disagree with you at all.

I stated in my post that if I must put a price then I will put $7gs. I only put that because it was my understanding that I needed to put a price or my post would be removed. I also stated that I'm not sure if I want to sell it as is or restore it which I have all of the capabilities to do.

By the way you have been a great help. Thanks for all of the info.

there's nothing wrong with making money on a deal. that's how i look at it. you're the one who found it, spent the time getting it and you were willing to take a chance. why should'nt that be rewarded with a paycheck at the end of the day?!

one of the things that still makes america great.:)
