i am building a rear axle with a rockwell 3rd member and 40 spline dana 70HD outers with round tubes and 8 lugs and disc brakes. it will be high clearenced more than a 60. does anyone have suggestions on how wide i should build it if i just plan on trying to sell it. i was going to use it, but i found something else instead. i was thinking right around 65". but if anyone has an oppinion or wants it for themselves let me know.

I'd say at least 70"

but why 70"? that seams to wide.

Why even build it then?
Width is gonna be determined by whatever the person is gonna run for a front axle.. So whatever width you chose is gonna limit potential buyers from using it - depending on that.

I say scrap the idea, or sell it for what you have in parts and be done with it.

Stop now, and let the buyer decide the width.

im also building an open knuckle front rockwell too. im going with 65, maybe 67.
