mine did the same thing, just put a battery charger on it and it will be good as new, at least thats the way mine was.

Just curious....are you absolutely sure your charging system is working alright?

Only time I've ever had battery issues was from shorts, or from charging problems.

WTF is the point of spending the coin on an Optima if you only get 1-2 years out of it. (besides it being sealed)

could be your starter going and starting to draw way too much current.

its my DD so it has not been sitting.
as I said it doesnt need a charge, it has 12+v (its charged). So I think I can assume charging sytem is ok. I put my charger on it and the charger indicated batt was full and did not kick on.

I cleaned grounds and leads etc. took it all apart, checked everything.
I pulled the starter cus it had been cranking slow, I assumed the starter was dragging an armature on the strator and expected to see a big amp draw, I checked free spin and it was 150 amps, I was expecting to see more.
I checked batt a full 12+v, then cranked it and it dropped to 6v, it shouldnt do that.

You might have a couple of dead cells in your battery...:skull:

I read here before that red tops should not be slow charged, or that is, trickle charged. They need a beefy charge current to keep them healthy. That's all I know, I've never had trouble with mine.

from optimas website www.optimabatteries.com

. Can you trickle charge an OPTIMA? Solar card charger?
Yes, you can use any charger on an OPTIMA as long as the voltage is regulated properly. If your charger will remain on indefinitely the voltage should be at 13.8 volts maximum with a one amp maximum current.

Had the same problem, checked everything, even the starter, I went out and bought a new starter and that was the problem

What voltage do you get at the battery at idle, and at say whatever RPM you do on the highway?

Should be around 14V. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure)

If its lower this would indicate a charging problem...
Just throwing out ideas...would suck to buy a new battery and have the same thing happen bacause of a different problem.

yeah this sucks, cus it COULD be the starter. the starter pulled 150 amps freespin, I THINK its supposed to be 125 max.

anyone know what the bosch starter should pull?
